本日經文提要 (約翰福音 7:1~8:59)
約7:2當時猶太人的住棚節近了。
約7:3耶穌的弟兄就對他說：你離開這裡上猶太去罷，叫你的門徒也看見你所行的事。
約7:4人要顯揚名聲，沒有在暗處行事的，你如果行這些事，就當將自己顯明給世人看。
約7:5因為連他的弟兄說這話，是因為不信他。
約7:6耶穌就對他們說：我的時候還沒有到，你們的時候常是方便的。
約7:7世人不能恨你們，卻是恨我，因為我指證他們所作的事是惡的。
約7:8你們上去過節罷，我現在不上去過這節，因為我的時候還沒有滿。
約7:9耶穌說了這話，仍舊住在加利利。
約7:10但他弟兄上去以後，他也上去過節，不是明去，似乎是暗去的。
約7:11正在節期，猶太人尋找耶穌說：他在那裡。
約7:12眾人為他紛紛議論，有的說：他是好人，有的說：不然，他是迷惑眾人的。
約7:13只是沒有人明明的講論他，因為怕猶太人。
約7:14到了節期，耶穌上殿裡去教訓人。
約7:15猶太人就希奇說：這個人沒有學過，怎麼明白書呢。
約7:16耶穌說：我的教訓不是我自己的，乃是那差我來者的。
約7:17人若立志遵著他的旨意行，就必曉得這教訓或是出於神，或是我憑著自己說的。
約7:18人憑著自說：是求自己的榮耀，惟有求那差他來者的榮耀，這人是真的，在他心裡沒有不義。
約7:19摩西豈不是傳律法給你們麼，你們卻沒有一個人守律法。為甚麼想要殺我呢。
約7:20眾人回答說你是被鬼附著了，誰想要殺你。
約7:21耶穌說：我作了一件事，你們都以為希奇。
約7:22摩西傳割禮給你們，（其實不是從摩西起的，乃是從祖先起的）因此你們也在安息日給人行割禮。
約7:23人若在安息日受割禮，免得違背摩西的律法，我在安息日叫一個人全然好了，你們就向我生氣麼。
約7:24不可按外貌斷定是非，總要按公平斷定是非。
約7:25耶路撒泠人中有的說：這不是他們想要殺的人麼。
約7:26你看他還明明的講道，他們也不向他說甚麼，難道官長真知道這是基督麼。
約7:27然而我們知道這個人從那裡來，只是基督來的時候，沒有人知道他從那裡來。
約7:28那時耶穌在殿裡教訓人，大聲說：你們也知道我，也知道我從那裡來，我來並不是由於自己，但那差我來的是真的，你們不認識他。
約7:29我卻認識他，因為我是從他來的，他也是差了我來。
約7:30他們就想要捉拿耶穌，只是沒有人下手，因為他的時候還沒有到。
約7:31但眾人中間有好些信他的，說：基督來的時候，他所行的神蹟，豈能比這人所行的更多麼。
約7:32法利賽人聽見眾人為耶穌這樣紛紛議論，祭司長和法利賽人，就打發差役去捉拿他。
約7:33於是耶穌說：我還有不多的時候和你們同在，以後就回到差我來的那裡去。
約7:34你們要找我，卻找不著，我所在的地方你們不能到。
約7:35猶太人就彼此對問說：這人要往那裡去，叫我們找不著呢，難道他要往散住希利尼中的猶太人那裡去教訓希利尼人麼。
約7:36他說：你們要找我，卻找不著，我所在的地方，你們不能到，這話是甚麼意思呢。
約7:37節期的末日，就是最大之日，耶穌站著高聲說：人若渴了，可以到我這裡來喝。
約7:38信我的人，就如經上所說：從他腹中要流出活水的江河來。
約7:39耶穌這話是指著信他之人，要受聖靈說的，那時還沒有賜下聖靈來，因為耶穌尚未得著榮耀。
約7:40眾人聽見這話，有的說：這真是那先知。
約7:41有的說：這是基督，但也有的說：基督豈是從加利利出來的麼。
約7:42經上豈不是說：基督是大衛的後裔，從大衛本鄉伯利恆出來的麼。
約7:43於是眾人因著耶穌起了分爭。
約7:44其中有人要捉拿他，只是無人下手。
約7:45差役回到祭司長和法利賽人那裡，他們對差役說：你們為甚麼沒有帶他來呢。
約7:46差役回答說：從來沒有像他這樣說話的。
約7:47法利賽人說：你們也受了迷惑麼。
約7:48官長或是法利賽人，豈有信他的呢。
約7:49但這些不明白律法的百姓，是被咒詛的。
約7:50內中有尼哥底母，就是從前去見耶穌的，對他們說：
約7:51不先聽本人的口供，不知道他所作的事，難道我們的律法還定他的罪麼。
約7:52他們回答說：你也是出於加利利麼，你且去查考，就可知道加利利沒有出過先知。
約8:1於是各人都回家去了，耶穌卻往橄欖山去。
約8:2清早又回到殿裡，眾百姓都到他那裡去，他就坐下教訓他們。
約8:3文士和法利賽人，帶著一個行淫時被拿的婦人來，叫他站在當中。
約8:4就對耶穌說：夫子，這婦人是正行淫之時被拿的。
約8:5摩西在律法上所吩咐我們，把這樣的婦人用石頭打死，你說該把他怎麼樣呢。
約8:6他們說這話，乃試探耶穌，要得著告他的把柄。耶穌卻彎著腰用指頭在地上畫字。
約8:7他們還是不住的問他，耶穌就直起腰來，對他們說：你們中間誰是沒有罪的，誰就可以先拿石頭打他。
約8:8於是又彎著腰用指頭在地上畫字。
約8:9他們聽見這話，就從老到少一個一個的都出去了，只剩下耶穌一人，還有那婦人仍然站在當中。
約8:10耶穌就直起腰來，對他說：婦人，那些人在那裡呢，沒有人定你的罪麼。
約8:11他說：主阿，沒有。耶穌說：我也不定你的罪，去罷，從此不要再犯罪了。
約8:12耶穌又對眾人說：我是世界的光，跟從我的，就不在黑暗裡走，必要得著生命的光。
約8:13法利賽人對他說：你是為自己作見證，你的見證不真。
約8:14耶穌說：我雖然為自己作見證，我的見證還是真的，因我知道我從那裡來，往那裡去，你們卻不知道我從那裡來，往那裡去。
約8:15你們是以外貌〔原文作憑肉身〕判斷人，我卻不判斷人。
約8:16就是判斷人，我的判斷也是真的，因為不是我獨自在這裡，還有差我來的父與我同在。
約8:17你們的律法上也記著說：兩個人的見證是真的。
約8:18我是為自己作見證，還有差我來的父，也是為我作見證。
約8:19他們就問他說：你的父在那裡。耶穌回答說：你們不認識我，也不認識我的父，若是認識我，也就認識我的父。
約8:20這些話是耶穌在殿裡的庫房，教訓人時所說的，也沒有人拿他，因為他的時候還沒有到。
約8:21耶穌又對他們說：我要去了，你們要找我，並且你們要死在罪中，我所去的地方，你們不能到。
約8:22猶太人說：他說我所去的地方，你們不能到，難道他要自盡麼。
約8:23耶穌對他們說：你們是從下頭來的，我是從上頭來的，你們是屬這世界的，我不是屬這世界的。
約8:24所以我對你們說：你們要死在罪中，你們若不信我是基督，必要死在罪中。
約8:25他們就問他說：你是誰。耶穌對他們說：就是我從起初所告訴你們的。
約8:26我有許多事講論你們，判斷你們，但那差我來的是真的，我在他那裡所聽見的，我就傳給世人。
約8:27他們不明白耶穌是指著父說的。
約8:28所以耶穌說：你們舉起人子以後，必知道我是基督，並且知道我沒有一件事，是憑著自己作的，我說這些話，乃是照著父所教訓我的。
約8:29那差我來的，是與我同在，他沒有撇下我獨自在這裡，因為我常作他所喜悅的事。
約8:30耶穌說這話的時候，就有許多人信他。
約8:31耶穌對信他的猶太人說：你們若常常遵守我的道，就真是我的門徒。
約8:32你們必曉得真理，真理必叫你們得以自由。
約8:33他們回答說：我們是亞伯拉罕的後裔，從來沒有作過誰的奴僕，你怎麼說：你們必得自由呢。
約8:34耶穌回答說：我實實在在的告訴你們，所有犯罪的，就是罪的奴僕。
約8:35奴僕不能永遠住在家裡，兒子是永遠住在家裡。
約8:36所以天父的兒子若叫你們自由，你們就真自由了。
約8:37我知道你們是亞伯拉罕的子孫，你們卻想要殺我，因為你們心裡容不下我的道。
約8:38我所說的，是在我父那裡看見的，你們所行的，是在你們的父那裡聽見的。
約8:39他們說：我們的父就是亞伯拉罕。耶穌說：你們若是亞伯拉罕的兒子，就必行亞伯拉罕所行的事。
約8:40我將在神那裡所聽見的真理，告訴了你們，現在你們卻想要殺我，這不是亞伯拉罕所行的事。
約8:41你們是行你們父所行的事。他們說：我們不是從淫亂生的，我們只有一位父就是神。
約8:42耶穌說：倘若神是你們的父，你們就必愛我，因為我本是出於神，也是從神而來，並不是由著自己來，乃是他差我來。
約8:43你們為甚麼不明白我的話呢，無非是因你們不能聽我的道。
約8:44你們是出於你們的父魔鬼，你們父的私慾，你們偏要行，他從起初是殺人的，不守真理，因他心裡沒有真理，他說謊是出於自己，因他本來是說謊的，也是說謊之人的父。
約8:45我將真理告訴你們，你們就因此不信我。
約8:46你們中間誰能指證我有罪呢。我既然將真理告訴你們，為甚麼不信我呢。
約8:47出於神的，必聽神的話，你們不聽，因為你們不是出於神。
約8:48猶太人回答說：我們說你是撒瑪利亞人，並且是鬼附著的，這話豈不正對麼。
約8:49耶穌說：我不是鬼附著的，我尊敬我的父，你們倒輕慢我。
約8:50我不求自己的榮耀，有一位為我求榮耀、定是非的。
約8:51我實實在在的告訴你們，人若遵守我的道，就永遠不見死。
約8:52猶太人對他說：現在我們知道你是鬼附著的。亞伯拉罕死了，眾先知也死了，你還說人若遵守我的道，就永遠不嘗死味。
約8:53難道你比我們的祖宗亞伯拉罕還大麼。他死了，眾先知也死了，你將自己當作甚麼人呢。
約8:54耶穌回答說：我若榮耀自己，我的榮耀就算不得甚麼，榮耀我的乃是我的父，就是你們所說是你們的神。
約8:55你們未曾認識他，我卻認識他，我若說不認識他，我就是說謊的，像你們一樣，但我認識他，也遵守他的道。
約8:56你們的祖宗亞伯拉罕歡歡喜喜的仰望我的日子，既看見了，就快樂。
約8:57猶太人說：你還沒有五十歲，豈見過亞伯拉罕呢。
約8:58耶穌說：我實實在在的告訴你們，還沒有亞伯拉罕，就有了我。

Jesus Goes to the Festival of Tabernacles
7 After this, Jesus went around in Galilee. He did not want[a] to go about in Judea because the Jewish leaders there were looking for a way to kill him. 2 But when the Jewish Festival of Tabernacles was near, 3 Jesus’ brothers said to him, “Leave Galilee and go to Judea, so that your disciples there may see the works you do. 4 No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world.” 5 For even his own brothers did not believe in him.
6 Therefore Jesus told them, “My time is not yet here; for you any time will do. 7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that its works are evil. 8 You go to the festival. I am not[b] going up to this festival, because my time has not yet fully come.” 9 After he had said this, he stayed in Galilee.
10 However, after his brothers had left for the festival, he went also, not publicly, but in secret. 11 Now at the festival the Jewish leaders were watching for Jesus and asking, “Where is he?”
12 Among the crowds there was widespread whispering about him. Some said, “He is a good man.”
Others replied, “No, he deceives the people.” 13 But no one would say anything publicly about him for fear of the leaders.
Jesus Teaches at the Festival
14 Not until halfway through the festival did Jesus go up to the temple courts and begin to teach. 15 The Jews there were amazed and asked, “How did this man get such learning without having been taught?”
16 Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me. 17 Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. 18 Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him. 19 Has not Moses given you the law? Yet not one of you keeps the law. Why are you trying to kill me?”
20 “You are demon-possessed,” the crowd answered. “Who is trying to kill you?”
21 Jesus said to them, “I did one miracle, and you are all amazed. 22 Yet, because Moses gave you circumcision (though actually it did not come from Moses, but from the patriarchs), you circumcise a boy on the Sabbath. 23 Now if a boy can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me for healing a man’s whole body on the Sabbath? 24 Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”
Division Over Who Jesus Is
25 At that point some of the people of Jerusalem began to ask, “Isn’t this the man they are trying to kill? 26 Here he is, speaking publicly, and they are not saying a word to him. Have the authorities really concluded that he is the Messiah? 27 But we know where this man is from; when the Messiah comes, no one will know where he is from.”
28 Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courts, cried out, “Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from. I am not here on my own authority, but he who sent me is true. You do not know him, 29 but I know him because I am from him and he sent me.”
30 At this they tried to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come. 31 Still, many in the crowd believed in him. They said, “When the Messiah comes, will he perform more signs than this man?”
32 The Pharisees heard the crowd whispering such things about him. Then the chief priests and the Pharisees sent temple guards to arrest him.
33 Jesus said, “I am with you for only a short time, and then I am going to the one who sent me. 34 You will look for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come.”
35 The Jews said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we cannot find him? Will he go where our people live scattered among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks? 36 What did he mean when he said, ‘You will look for me, but you will not find me,’ and ‘Where I am, you cannot come’?”
37 On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”[c] 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
40 On hearing his words, some of the people said, “Surely this man is the Prophet.”
41 Others said, “He is the Messiah.”
Still others asked, “How can the Messiah come from Galilee? 42 Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David’s descendants and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?” 43 Thus the people were divided because of Jesus. 44 Some wanted to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him.
Unbelief of the Jewish Leaders
45 Finally the temple guards went back to the chief priests and the Pharisees, who asked them, “Why didn’t you bring him in?”
46 “No one ever spoke the way this man does,” the guards replied.
47 “You mean he has deceived you also?” the Pharisees retorted. 48 “Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him? 49 No! But this mob that knows nothing of the law—there is a curse on them.”
50 Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus earlier and who was one of their own number, asked, 51 “Does our law condemn a man without first hearing him to find out what he has been doing?”
52 They replied, “Are you from Galilee, too? Look into it, and you will find that a prophet does not come out of Galilee.”
[The earliest manuscripts and many other ancient witnesses do not have John 7:53—8:11. A few manuscripts include these verses, wholly or in part, after John 7:36, John 21:25, Luke 21:38 or Luke 24:53.]

32 The Pharisees heard the crowd whispering such things about him. Then the chief priests and the Pharisees sent temple guards to arrest him.
33 Jesus said, “I am with you for only a short time, and then I am going to the one who sent me. 34 You will look for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come.”
35 The Jews said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we cannot find him? Will he go where our people live scattered among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks? 36 What did he mean when he said, ‘You will look for me, but you will not find me,’ and ‘Where I am, you cannot come’?”
37 On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”[c] 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
40 On hearing his words, some of the people said, “Surely this man is the Prophet.”
41 Others said, “He is the Messiah.”
Still others asked, “How can the Messiah come from Galilee? 42 Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David’s descendants and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?” 43 Thus the people were divided because of Jesus. 44 Some wanted to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him.
Unbelief of the Jewish Leaders
45 Finally the temple guards went back to the chief priests and the Pharisees, who asked them, “Why didn’t you bring him in?”
46 “No one ever spoke the way this man does,” the guards replied.
47 “You mean he has deceived you also?” the Pharisees retorted. 48 “Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him? 49 No! But this mob that knows nothing of the law—there is a curse on them.”
50 Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus earlier and who was one of their own number, asked, 51 “Does our law condemn a man without first hearing him to find out what he has been doing?”
52 They replied, “Are you from Galilee, too? Look into it, and you will find that a prophet does not come out of Galilee.”
[The earliest manuscripts and many other ancient witnesses do not have John 7:53—8:11. A few manuscripts include these verses, wholly or in part, after John 7:36, John 21:25, Luke 21:38 or Luke 24:53.]
53 Then they all went home,

8 1 but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
2 At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. 3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
11 “No one, sir,” she said.
“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
Dispute Over Jesus’ Testimony
12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
13 The Pharisees challenged him, “Here you are, appearing as your own witness; your testimony is not valid.”
14 Jesus answered, “Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going. 15 You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one. 16 But if I do judge, my decisions are true, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me. 17 In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two witnesses is true. 18 I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me.”
19 Then they asked him, “Where is your father?”
“You do not know me or my Father,” Jesus replied. “If you knew me, you would know my Father also.” 20 He spoke these words while teaching in the temple courts near the place where the offerings were put. Yet no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come.
Dispute Over Who Jesus Is
21 Once more Jesus said to them, “I am going away, and you will look for me, and you will die in your sin. Where I go, you cannot come.”
22 This made the Jews ask, “Will he kill himself? Is that why he says, ‘Where I go, you cannot come’?”
23 But he continued, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. 24 I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am he, you will indeed die in your sins.”
25 “Who are you?” they asked.
“Just what I have been telling you from the beginning,” Jesus replied. 26 “I have much to say in judgment of you. But he who sent me is trustworthy, and what I have heard from him I tell the world.”
27 They did not understand that he was telling them about his Father. 28 So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up[a] the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me. 29 The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him.” 30 Even as he spoke, many believed in him.
Dispute Over Whose Children Jesus’ Opponents Are
31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”
34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. 37 I know that you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are looking for a way to kill me, because you have no room for my word. 38 I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you are doing what you have heard from your father.[b]”
39 “Abraham is our father,” they answered.
“If you were Abraham’s children,” said Jesus, “then you would[c] do what Abraham did. 40 As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. 41 You are doing the works of your own father.”
“We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is God himself.”
42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. 43 Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? 47 Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”
Jesus’ Claims About Himself
48 The Jews answered him, “Aren’t we right in saying that you are a Samaritan and demon-possessed?”
49 “I am not possessed by a demon,” said Jesus, “but I honor my Father and you dishonor me. 50 I am not seeking glory for myself; but there is one who seeks it, and he is the judge. 51 Very truly I tell you, whoever obeys my word will never see death.”
52 At this they exclaimed, “Now we know that you are demon-possessed! Abraham died and so did the prophets, yet you say that whoever obeys your word will never taste death. 53 Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?”
54 Jesus replied, “If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me. 55 Though you do not know him, I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and obey his word. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.”
57 “You are not yet fifty years old,” they said to him, “and you have seen Abraham!”
