本日經文提要(以賽亞書 15:1~22:25)
賽15:1論摩押的默示。一夜之間，摩押的亞珥，變為荒廢，歸於無有，一夜之間，摩押的基珥，變為荒廢，歸於無有。
賽15:2他們上巴益，又往底本，到高處去哭泣，摩押人因尼波和米底巴哀號，各人頭上光禿，鬍鬚剃淨。
賽15:3他們在街市上都腰束麻布，在房頂上和寬闊處，俱各哀號，眼淚汪汪。
賽15:4希實本和以利亞利悲哀的聲音，達到雅雜，所以摩押帶兵器的高聲喊嚷，人心戰兢。
賽15:5我心為摩押悲哀，他的貴冑，〔或作逃民〕逃到瑣珥，到伊基拉，施利施亞，他們上魯希坡隨走隨哭，在何羅念的路上，因毀滅舉起哀聲。
賽15:6因為寧林的水成為乾涸，青草枯乾，嫩草滅沒，青綠之物，一無所有。
賽15:7因此，摩押人所得的財物，和所積蓄的，都要運過柳樹河。
賽15:8哀聲遍聞摩押的四境，哀號的聲音，達到以基蓮，哀號的聲音，達到比珥以琳。
賽15:9底們的水充滿了血，我還要加增底們的災難，叫獅子來追上摩押逃脫的民，和那地上所餘剩的人。
賽16:1你們當將羊羔奉給那地掌權的，從西拉往曠野，送到錫安城的山。〔城原文作女子〕
賽16:2摩押的居民，〔居民原文作女子〕在亞嫩渡口，必像遊飛的鳥，如拆窩的雛。
賽16:3求你獻謀略，行公平，使你的影子在午間如黑夜，隱藏被趕散的人，不可顯露逃民。
賽16:4求你容我這被趕散的人和你同居，至於摩押，求你作他的隱密處，脫離滅命者的面。勒索人的歸於無有，毀滅的事止息了，欺壓人的從國中除滅了。
賽16:5必有寶座因慈愛堅立，必有一位誠誠實實坐在其上，在大衛帳幕中施行審判，尋求公平，速行公義。
賽16:6我們聽說摩押人驕傲，是極其驕傲，聽說他狂妄，驕傲，忿怒，他誇大的話，是虛空的。
賽16:7因此，摩押人必為摩押哀號，人人都要哀號，你們摩押人要為吉珥哈列設的葡萄餅哀歎，極其憂傷。
賽16:8因為希實本的田地，和西比瑪的葡萄樹，都衰殘了，列國的君主折斷其上美好的枝子，這枝子長到雅謝延到曠野，嫩枝向外探出，直探過鹽海。
賽16:9因此，我要為西比瑪的葡萄樹哀哭，與雅謝人哀哭一樣，希實本，以利亞利阿，我要以眼淚澆灌你，因為有交戰吶喊的聲音，臨到你夏天的果子，並你收割的莊稼。
賽16:10從肥美的田中，奪去了歡喜快樂，在葡萄園裡，必無歌唱，也無歡呼的聲音，踹酒的在酒醡中不得踹出酒來，我使他歡呼的聲音止息。
賽16:11因此，我心腹為摩押哀鳴如琴，我心腸為吉珥哈列設，也是如此。
賽16:12摩押人朝見的時候，在高處疲乏，又到他聖所祈禱，也不蒙應允。
賽16:13這是耶和華從前論摩押的話。
賽16:14但現在耶和華說：三年之內，照雇工的年數，摩押的榮耀，與他的群眾，必被藐視，餘剩的人，甚少無幾。
賽17:1論大馬色的默示。看哪，大馬色已被廢棄，不再為城，必變作亂堆。
賽17:2亞羅珥的城邑，已被撇棄，必成為牧羊之處，羊在那裡躺臥，無人驚嚇。
賽17:3以法蓮不再有保障，大馬色不再有國權，亞蘭所剩下的，必像以色列人的榮耀消滅一樣，這是萬軍之耶和華說的。
賽17:4到那日雅各的榮耀，必至枵薄，他肥胖的身體，必漸瘦弱。
賽17:5就必像收割的人，收斂禾稼，用手割取穗子，又像人在利乏音谷拾取遺落的穗子。
賽17:6其間所剩下的不多，好像人打橄欖樹，在儘上的枝梢上，只剩兩三個果子，在多果樹的旁枝上，只剩四五個果子，這是耶和華以色列的神說的。
賽17:7當那日人必仰望造他們的主，眼目重看以色列的聖者。
賽17:8他們必不仰望祭壇，就是自己手所築的，也不重看自己指頭所作的，無論是木偶，是日像。
賽17:9在那日他們的堅固城，必像樹林中和山頂上所撇棄的地方，就是從前在以色列人面前被人撇棄的，這樣，地就荒涼了。
賽17:10因你忘記救你的神，不記念你能力的磐石，所以你栽上佳美的樹秧子，插上異樣的栽子。
賽17:11栽種的日子，你周圍圈上籬笆，又到早晨使你所種的開花，但在愁苦極其傷痛的日子，所收割的，都飛去了。
賽17:12唉，多民鬨嚷，好像海浪匉訇，列邦奔騰，好像猛水滔滔。
賽17:13列邦奔騰，好像多水滔滔，但神斥責他們，他們就遠遠逃避，又被追趕，如同山上的風前糠，又如暴風前的旋風土。
賽17:14到晚上有驚嚇，未到早晨，他們就沒有了，這是擄掠我們之人所得的分，是搶奪我們之人的報應。
賽18:1唉，古實河外翅膀刷刷響聲之地，
賽18:2差遣使者在水面上，坐蒲草船過海，先知說：你們快行的使者，要到高大光滑的民那裡去，自從開國以來那民極其可畏，是分地界踐踏人的，他們的地有江河分開。
賽18:3世上一切的居民，和地上所住的人哪，山上豎立大旗的時候，你們要看，吹角的時候，你們要聽。
賽18:4耶和華對我這樣說：我要安靜，在我的居所觀看，如同日光中的清熱，又如露水的雲霧在收割的熱天。
賽18:5收割之先，花開已謝，花也成了將熟的葡萄，他必用鐮刀削去嫩枝，又砍掉蔓延的枝條。
賽18:6都要撇給山間的鷙鳥，和地上的野獸，夏天鷙鳥要宿在其上，冬天野獸都臥在其中。
賽18:7到那時這高大光滑的民，就是從開國以來極其可畏，分地界踐踏人的，他們的地有江河分開，他們必將禮物奉給萬軍之耶和華，就是奉到錫安山，耶和華安置他名的地方。
賽19:1論埃及的默示。看哪，耶和華乘駕快雲，臨到埃及，埃及的偶像在他面前戰兢，埃及人的心在裡面消化。
賽19:2我必激動埃及人攻擊埃及人，弟兄攻擊弟兄，鄰舍攻擊鄰舍，這城攻擊那城，這國攻擊那國。
賽19:3埃及人的心神，必在裡面耗盡，我必敗壞他們的謀略，他們必求問偶像，和念咒的，交鬼的，行巫術的。
賽19:4我必將埃及人交在殘忍主的手中，強暴王必轄制他們，這是主萬軍之耶和華說的。
賽19:5海中的水必絕盡，河也消沒乾涸。
賽19:6江河要變臭，埃及的河水，都必減少枯乾，葦子和蘆荻，都必衰殘。
賽19:7靠尼羅河旁的草田，並沿尼羅河所種的田，都必枯乾，莊稼被風吹去，歸於無有。
賽19:8打魚的必哀哭，在尼羅河一切釣魚的必悲傷，在水上撒網的，必都衰弱。
賽19:9用梳好的麻造物的，和織白布的，都必羞愧。
賽19:10國柱必被打碎，所有傭工的，心必愁煩。
賽19:11瑣安的首領，極其愚昧，法老大有智慧的謀士，所籌劃的，成為愚謀，你們怎敢對法老說：我是智慧人的子孫，我是古王的後裔。
賽19:12你的智慧人在那裡呢，萬軍之耶和華向埃及所定的旨意，他們可以知道，可以告訴你罷。
賽19:13瑣安的首領，都變為愚昧，挪弗的首領，都受了迷惑，當埃及支派房角石的使埃及人走錯了路。
賽19:14耶和華使乖謬的靈，攙入埃及中間，首領使埃及一切所作的都有差錯，好像醉酒之人嘔吐的時候，東倒西歪一樣。
賽19:15埃及中，無論是頭與尾，棕枝與蘆葦，所作之工，都不成就。
賽19:16到那日，埃及人必像婦人一樣，他們必因萬軍之耶和華在埃及以上所掄的手，戰兢懼怕。
賽19:17猶大地必使埃及驚恐，向誰提起猶大地，誰就懼怕，這是因萬軍之耶和華向埃及所定的旨意。
賽19:18當那日埃及地必有五城的人說迦南的方言，又指著萬軍之耶和華起誓，有一城，必稱為滅亡城。
賽19:19當那日，在埃及地中必有為耶和華築的一座壇，在埃及的邊界上，必有為耶和華立的一根柱。
賽19:20這都要在埃及地為萬軍之耶和華作記號和證據，埃及人因為受人的欺壓哀求耶和華，他就差遣一位救主，作護衛者，拯救他們。
賽19:21耶和華必被埃及人所認識，在那日埃及人必認識耶和華，也要獻祭物和供物敬拜他，並向耶和華許願還願。
賽19:22耶和華必擊打埃及，又擊打，又醫治，埃及人就歸向耶和華，他必應允他們的禱告，醫治他們。
賽19:23當那日必有從埃及通亞述去的大道，亞述人要進入埃及，埃及人也進入亞述，埃及人要與亞述人一同敬拜耶和華。
賽19:24當那日，以色列必與埃及，亞述三國一律，使地上的人得福。
賽19:25因為萬軍之耶和華賜福給他們，說：埃及我的百姓，亞述我手的工作，以色列我的產業，都有福了。
賽20:1亞述王撒珥根打發他珥探到亞實突的那年，他珥探就攻打亞實突，將城攻取。
賽20:2那時耶和華曉諭亞摩斯的兒子以賽亞說：你去解掉你腰間的麻布，脫下你腳上的鞋，以賽亞就這樣作，露身赤腳行走。
賽20:3耶和華說：我僕人以賽亞怎樣露身赤腳行走三年，作為關乎埃及，和古實的豫兆奇蹟。
賽20:4照樣，亞述王也必擄去埃及人，掠去古實人，無論老少，都露身赤腳，現出下體，使埃及蒙羞。
賽20:5以色列人必因所仰望的古實，所誇耀的埃及，驚惶羞愧。
賽20:6那時這沿海一帶的居民必說：看哪，我們素所仰望的，就是我們為脫離亞述王逃往求救的，不過是如此，我們怎能逃脫呢。
賽21:1論海旁曠野的默示。有仇敵從曠野，從可怕之地而來，好像南方的旋風，猛然掃過。
賽21:2令人悽慘的異象已，默示於我，詭詐的行詭詐，毀滅的行毀滅。以攔哪，你要上去，瑪代阿，你要圍困，主說：我使一切歎息止住。
賽21:3所以我滿腰疼痛，痛苦將我抓住，好像產難的婦人一樣，我疼痛甚至不能聽，我驚惶甚至不能看。
賽21:4我心慌張，驚恐威嚇我，我所羨慕的黃昏，變為我的戰兢。
賽21:5他們擺設筵席，派人守望，又吃又喝，首領阿，你們起來，用油抹盾牌。
賽21:6主對我如此說：你去設立守望的，使他將所看見的述說。
賽21:7他看見軍隊，就是騎馬的一對一對地來，又看見驢隊，駱駝隊，就要側耳細聽。
賽21:8他像獅子吼叫，說：主阿，我白日常站在望樓上，整夜立在我守望所。
賽21:9看哪，有一隊軍兵騎著馬，一對一對地來。他就說：巴比倫傾倒了，傾倒了，他一切雕刻的神像，都打碎於地。
賽21:10我被打的禾稼，我場上的穀阿，我從萬軍之耶和華以色列的神那裡所聽見的，都告訴你們了。
賽21:11論度瑪的默示。有人聲從西珥呼問我，說：守望的阿，夜裡如何，守望的阿，夜裡如何。
賽21:12守望的說：早晨將到，黑夜也來，你們若要問，就可以問，可以回頭再來。
賽21:13論亞拉伯的默示。底但結伴的客旅阿，你們必在亞拉伯的樹林中住宿。
賽21:14提瑪地的居民拿水來，送給口渴的，拿餅來迎接逃避的。
賽21:15因為他們逃避刀劍，和出了鞘的刀，並上了弦的弓，與刀兵的重災。
賽21:16主對我這樣說：一年之內，照雇工的年數，基達的一切榮耀必歸於無有。
賽21:17弓箭手所餘剩的，就是基達人的勇士，必然稀少，因為這是耶和華以色列的神說的。
賽22:1論異象谷的默示。有甚麼事使你這滿城的人都上房頂呢。
賽22:2你這滿處吶喊，大有喧嘩的城，歡樂的邑阿，你中間被殺的，並不是被刀殺，也不是因打仗死亡。
賽22:3你所有的官長一同逃跑，都為弓箭手所捆綁，你中間一切被找到的都一同被捆綁，他們本是逃往遠方的。
賽22:4所以我說：你們轉眼不看我，我要痛哭，不要因我眾民〔原文作民女〕的毀滅，就竭力安慰我。
賽22:5因為主萬軍之耶和華使異象谷有潰亂，踐踏，煩擾的日子，城被攻破，哀聲達到山間。
賽22:6以攔帶著箭袋，還有坐戰車的和馬兵，吉珥揭開盾牌。
賽22:7你嘉美的谷遍滿戰車，也有馬兵在城門前排列。
賽22:8他去掉猶大的遮蓋，那日，你就仰望林庫內的軍器。
賽22:9你們看見大衛城的破口很多，便聚積下池的水。
賽22:10又數點耶路撒冷的房屋，將房屋拆毀，修補城牆。
賽22:11又在兩道城牆中間挖一個聚水池，可盛舊池的水，卻不仰望作這事的主，也不顧念從古定這事的。
賽22:12當那日主萬軍之耶和華叫人哭泣哀號，頭上光禿，身披麻布。
賽22:13誰知，人倒歡喜快樂，宰牛殺羊，吃肉喝酒，說：我們吃喝罷。因為明天要死了。
賽22:14萬軍之耶和華親自默示我，說：這罪孽直到你們死，斷不得赦免，這是主萬軍之耶和華說的。
賽22:15主萬軍之耶和華這樣說：你去見掌銀庫的，就是家宰舍伯那，對他說：
賽22:16你在這裡作甚麼呢，有甚麼人竟在這裡鑿墳墓，就是在高處為自己鑿墳墓，在磐石中為自己鑿出安身之所。
賽22:17看哪，耶和華必像大有力的人，將你緊緊纏裹，竭力拋去。
賽22:18他必將你輥成一團，拋在寬闊之地，好像拋球一樣，你這主人家的羞辱，必在那裡坐你榮耀的車，也必在那裡死亡。
賽22:19我必趕逐你離開官職，你必從你的原位撤下。
賽22:20到那日我必召我僕人希勒家的兒子以利亞敬來。
賽22:21將你的外袍給他穿上，將你的腰帶給他繫緊，將你的政權交在他手中，他必作耶路撒冷居民和猶大家的父。
賽22:22我必將大衛家的鑰匙放在他肩頭上，他開，無人能關，他關，無人能開。
賽22:23我必將他安穩，像釘子釘在堅固處，他必作為他父家榮耀的寶座。
賽22:24他父家所有的榮耀，連兒女帶子孫，都掛在他身上，好像一切小器皿，從杯子到酒缾掛上一樣。
賽22:25萬軍之耶和華說：當那日釘在堅固處的釘子必壓斜，被砍斷落地，掛在其上的重擔必被剪斷，因為這是耶和華說的。

賽19:22耶和華必擊打埃及，又擊打，又醫治，埃及人就歸向耶和華，他必應允他們的禱告，醫治他們。
賽19:23當那日必有從埃及通亞述去的大道，亞述人要進入埃及，埃及人也進入亞述，埃及人要與亞述人一同敬拜耶和華。
賽19:24當那日，以色列必與埃及，亞述三國一律，使地上的人得福。
賽19:25因為萬軍之耶和華賜福給他們，說：埃及我的百姓，亞述我手的工作，以色列我的產業，都有福了。
賽20:1亞述王撒珥根打發他珥探到亞實突的那年，他珥探就攻打亞實突，將城攻取。
賽20:2那時耶和華曉諭亞摩斯的兒子以賽亞說：你去解掉你腰間的麻布，脫下你腳上的鞋，以賽亞就這樣作，露身赤腳行走。
賽20:3耶和華說：我僕人以賽亞怎樣露身赤腳行走三年，作為關乎埃及，和古實的豫兆奇蹟。
賽20:4照樣，亞述王也必擄去埃及人，掠去古實人，無論老少，都露身赤腳，現出下體，使埃及蒙羞。
賽20:5以色列人必因所仰望的古實，所誇耀的埃及，驚惶羞愧。
賽20:6那時這沿海一帶的居民必說：看哪，我們素所仰望的，就是我們為脫離亞述王逃往求救的，不過是如此，我們怎能逃脫呢。
賽21:1論海旁曠野的默示。有仇敵從曠野，從可怕之地而來，好像南方的旋風，猛然掃過。
賽21:2令人悽慘的異象已，默示於我，詭詐的行詭詐，毀滅的行毀滅。以攔哪，你要上去，瑪代阿，你要圍困，主說：我使一切歎息止住。
賽21:3所以我滿腰疼痛，痛苦將我抓住，好像產難的婦人一樣，我疼痛甚至不能聽，我驚惶甚至不能看。
賽21:4我心慌張，驚恐威嚇我，我所羨慕的黃昏，變為我的戰兢。
賽21:5他們擺設筵席，派人守望，又吃又喝，首領阿，你們起來，用油抹盾牌。
賽21:6主對我如此說：你去設立守望的，使他將所看見的述說。
賽21:7他看見軍隊，就是騎馬的一對一對地來，又看見驢隊，駱駝隊，就要側耳細聽。
賽21:8他像獅子吼叫，說：主阿，我白日常站在望樓上，整夜立在我守望所。
賽21:9看哪，有一隊軍兵騎著馬，一對一對地來。他就說：巴比倫傾倒了，傾倒了，他一切雕刻的神像，都打碎於地。
賽21:10我被打的禾稼，我場上的穀阿，我從萬軍之耶和華以色列的神那裡所聽見的，都告訴你們了。
賽21:11論度瑪的默示。有人聲從西珥呼問我，說：守望的阿，夜裡如何，守望的阿，夜裡如何。
賽21:12守望的說：早晨將到，黑夜也來，你們若要問，就可以問，可以回頭再來。
賽21:13論亞拉伯的默示。底但結伴的客旅阿，你們必在亞拉伯的樹林中住宿。
賽21:14提瑪地的居民拿水來，送給口渴的，拿餅來迎接逃避的。
賽21:15因為他們逃避刀劍，和出了鞘的刀，並上了弦的弓，與刀兵的重災。
賽21:16主對我這樣說：一年之內，照雇工的年數，基達的一切榮耀必歸於無有。
賽21:17弓箭手所餘剩的，就是基達人的勇士，必然稀少，因為這是耶和華以色列的神說的。
賽22:1論異象谷的默示。有甚麼事使你這滿城的人都上房頂呢。
賽22:2你這滿處吶喊，大有喧嘩的城，歡樂的邑阿，你中間被殺的，並不是被刀殺，也不是因打仗死亡。
賽22:3你所有的官長一同逃跑，都為弓箭手所捆綁，你中間一切被找到的都一同被捆綁，他們本是逃往遠方的。
賽22:4所以我說：你們轉眼不看我，我要痛哭，不要因我眾民〔原文作民女〕的毀滅，就竭力安慰我。
賽22:5因為主萬軍之耶和華使異象谷有潰亂，踐踏，煩擾的日子，城被攻破，哀聲達到山間。
賽22:6以攔帶著箭袋，還有坐戰車的和馬兵，吉珥揭開盾牌。
賽22:7你嘉美的谷遍滿戰車，也有馬兵在城門前排列。
賽22:8他去掉猶大的遮蓋，那日，你就仰望林庫內的軍器。
賽22:9你們看見大衛城的破口很多，便聚積下池的水。
賽22:10又數點耶路撒冷的房屋，將房屋拆毀，修補城牆。
賽22:11又在兩道城牆中間挖一個聚水池，可盛舊池的水，卻不仰望作這事的主，也不顧念從古定這事的。
賽22:12當那日主萬軍之耶和華叫人哭泣哀號，頭上光禿，身披麻布。
賽22:13誰知，人倒歡喜快樂，宰牛殺羊，吃肉喝酒，說：我們吃喝罷。因為明天要死了。
賽22:14萬軍之耶和華親自默示我，說：這罪孽直到你們死，斷不得赦免，這是主萬軍之耶和華說的。
賽22:15主萬軍之耶和華這樣說：你去見掌銀庫的，就是家宰舍伯那，對他說：
賽22:16你在這裡作甚麼呢，有甚麼人竟在這裡鑿墳墓，就是在高處為自己鑿墳墓，在磐石中為自己鑿出安身之所。
賽22:17看哪，耶和華必像大有力的人，將你緊緊纏裹，竭力拋去。
賽22:18他必將你輥成一團，拋在寬闊之地，好像拋球一樣，你這主人家的羞辱，必在那裡坐你榮耀的車，也必在那裡死亡。
賽22:19我必趕逐你離開官職，你必從你的原位撤下。
賽22:20到那日我必召我僕人希勒家的兒子以利亞敬來。
賽22:21將你的外袍給他穿上，將你的腰帶給他繫緊，將你的政權交在他手中，他必作耶路撒冷居民和猶大家的父。
賽22:22我必將大衛家的鑰匙放在他肩頭上，他開，無人能關，他關，無人能開。

2 Dibon goes up to its temple,
to its high places to weep;
Moab wails over Nebo and Medeba.
Every head is shaved
and every beard cut off.
3 In the streets they wear sackcloth;
on the roofs and in the public squares
they all wail,
prostrate with weeping.
4 Heshbon and Elealeh cry out,
their voices are heard all the way to Jahaz.
Therefore the armed men of Moab cry out,
and their hearts are faint.
5 My heart cries out over Moab;
her fugitives flee as far as Zoar,
as far as Eglath Shelishiyah.
They go up the hill to Luhith,
weeping as they go;
on the road to Horonaim
they lament their destruction.
6 The waters of Nimrim are dried up
and the grass is withered;
the vegetation is gone
and nothing green is left.
7 So the wealth they have acquired and stored up
they carry away over the Ravine of the Poplars.
8 Their outcry echoes along the border of Moab;
their wailing reaches as far as Eglaim,
their lamentation as far as Beer Elim.
9 The waters of Dimon[a] are full of blood,

16 Send lambs as tribute
to the ruler of the land,
from Sela, across the desert,
to the mount of Daughter Zion.
2 Like fluttering birds
pushed from the nest,
so are the women of Moab
at the fords of the Arnon.
3 “Make up your mind,” Moab says.
“Render a decision.
Make your shadow like night—
at high noon.
Hide the fugitives,
do not betray the refugees.
4 Let the Moabite fugitives stay with you;
be their shelter from the destroyer.”
The oppressor will come to an end,
and destruction will cease;
the aggressor will vanish from the land.
5 In love a throne will be established;
in faithfulness a man will sit on it—
one from the house[a] of David—
one who in judging seeks justice
and speeds the cause of righteousness.
6 We have heard of Moab’s pride—
how great is her arrogance!—
of her conceit, her pride and her insolence;
but her boasts are empty.
7 Therefore the Moabites wail,
they wail together for Moab.
Lament and grieve
for the raisin cakes of Kir Hareseth.
8 The fields of Heshbon wither,
the vines of Sibmah also.
The rulers of the nations
have trampled down the choicest vines,
which once reached Jazer
and spread toward the desert.
Their shoots spread out
and went as far as the sea.[b]
9 So I weep, as Jazer weeps,
for the vines of Sibmah.
Heshbon and Elealeh,
I drench you with tears!
The shouts of joy over your ripened fruit
and over your harvests have been stilled.
10 Joy and gladness are taken away from the orchards;
no one sings or shouts in the vineyards;
no one treads out wine at the presses,
for I have put an end to the shouting.
11 My heart laments for Moab like a harp,
my inmost being for Kir Hareseth.
12 When Moab appears at her high place,
she only wears herself out;
when she goes to her shrine to pray,
it is to no avail.
13 This is the word the Lord has already spoken concerning Moab. 14 But now the Lord says: “Within three years, as a servant bound by contract would count them, Moab’s splendor and all her many people will be despised, and her survivors will be very few and feeble.”

A Prophecy Against Damascus
17 A prophecy against Damascus:
“See, Damascus will no longer be a city
but will become a heap of ruins.
2 The cities of Aroer will be deserted
and left to flocks, which will lie down,
with no one to make them afraid.
3 The fortified city will disappear from Ephraim,
and royal power from Damascus;
the remnant of Aram will be
like the glory of the Israelites,”
declares the Lord Almighty.
4 “In that day the glory of Jacob will fade;
the fat of his body will waste away.
5 It will be as when reapers harvest the standing grain,
gathering the grain in their arms—
as when someone gleans heads of grain
in the Valley of Rephaim.
6 Yet some gleanings will remain,
as when an olive tree is beaten,
leaving two or three olives on the topmost branches,
four or five on the fruitful boughs,”
declares the Lord, the God of Israel.
7 In that day people will look to their Maker
and turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel.
8 They will not look to the altars,
the work of their hands,
and they will have no regard for the Asherah poles[a]
and the incense altars their fingers have made.
9 In that day their strong cities, which they left because of the Israelites, will be like places abandoned to thickets and undergrowth. And all will be desolation.
10 You have forgotten God your Savior;
you have not remembered the Rock, your fortress.
Therefore, though you set out the finest plants
and plant imported vines,
11 though on the day you set them out, you make them grow,
and on the morning when you plant them, you bring them to bud,
yet the harvest will be as nothing
in the day of disease and incurable pain.
12 Woe to the many nations that rage—
they rage like the raging sea!
Woe to the peoples who roar—
they roar like the roaring of great waters!
13 Although the peoples roar like the roar of surging waters,
when he rebukes them they flee far away,
driven before the wind like chaff on the hills,
like tumbleweed before a gale.
14 In the evening, sudden terror!
Before the morning, they are gone!
This is the portion of those who loot us,
the lot of those who plunder us.

18 Woe to the land of whirring wings[a]
along the rivers of Cush,[b]
2 which sends envoys by sea
in papyrus boats over the water.
Go, swift messengers,
to a people tall and smooth-skinned,
to a people feared far and wide,
an aggressive nation of strange speech,
whose land is divided by rivers.
3 All you people of the world,
you who live on the earth,
when a banner is raised on the mountains,
you will see it,
and when a trumpet sounds,
you will hear it.
4 This is what the Lord says to me:
“I will remain quiet and will look on from my dwelling place,
like shimmering heat in the sunshine,
like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.”
5 For, before the harvest, when the blossom is gone
and the flower becomes a ripening grape,
he will cut off the shoots with pruning knives,
and cut down and take away the spreading branches.
6 They will all be left to the mountain birds of prey
and to the wild animals;
the birds will feed on them all summer,
the wild animals all winter.
7 At that time gifts will be brought to the Lord Almighty
from a people tall and smooth-skinned,
from a people feared far and wide,
an aggressive nation of strange speech,
whose land is divided by rivers—
the gifts will be brought to Mount Zion, the place of the Name of the Lord Almighty.

A Prophecy Against Egypt
19 A prophecy against Egypt:
See, the Lord rides on a swift cloud
and is coming to Egypt.
The idols of Egypt tremble before him,
and the hearts of the Egyptians melt with fear.
2 “I will stir up Egyptian against Egyptian—
brother will fight against brother,
neighbor against neighbor,
city against city,
kingdom against kingdom.
3 The Egyptians will lose heart,
and I will bring their plans to nothing;
they will consult the idols and the spirits of the dead,
the mediums and the spiritists.
4 I will hand the Egyptians over
to the power of a cruel master,
and a fierce king will rule over them,”
declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.
5 The waters of the river will dry up,
and the riverbed will be parched and dry.
6 The canals will stink;
the streams of Egypt will dwindle and dry up.
The reeds and rushes will wither,
7 also the plants along the Nile,
at the mouth of the river.
Every sown field along the Nile
will become parched, will blow away and be no more.
8 The fishermen will groan and lament,
all who cast hooks into the Nile;
those who throw nets on the water
will pine away.
9 Those who work with combed flax will despair,
the weavers of fine linen will lose hope.
10 The workers in cloth will be dejected,
and all the wage earners will be sick at heart.
11 The officials of Zoan are nothing but fools;
the wise counselors of Pharaoh give senseless advice.
How can you say to Pharaoh,
“I am one of the wise men,
a disciple of the ancient kings”?
12 Where are your wise men now?
Let them show you and make known
what the Lord Almighty
has planned against Egypt.
13 The officials of Zoan have become fools,
the leaders of Memphis are deceived;
the cornerstones of her peoples
have led Egypt astray.
14 The Lord has poured into them
a spirit of dizziness;
they make Egypt stagger in all that she does,
as a drunkard staggers around in his vomit.
15 There is nothing Egypt can do—
head or tail, palm branch or reed.
16 In that day the Egyptians will become weaklings. They will shudder with fear at the uplifted hand that the Lord Almighty raises against them. 17 And the land of Judah will bring terror to the Egyptians; everyone to whom Judah is mentioned will be terrified, because of what the Lord Almighty is planning against them.
18 In that day five cities in Egypt will speak the language of Canaan and swear allegiance to the Lord Almighty. One of them will be called the City of the Sun.[a]
19 In that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the heart of Egypt, and a monument to the Lord at its border. 20 It will be a sign and witness to the Lord Almighty in the land of Egypt. When they cry out to the Lord because of their oppressors, he will send them a savior and defender, and he will rescue them. 21 So the Lord will make himself known to the Egyptians, and in that day they will acknowledge the Lord. They will worship with sacrifices and grain offerings; they will make vows to the Lord and keep them. 22 The Lord will strike Egypt with a plague; he will strike them and heal them. They will turn to the Lord, and he will respond to their pleas and heal them.
23 In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria. The Assyrians will go to Egypt and the Egyptians to Assyria. The Egyptians and Assyrians will worship together. 24 In that day Israel will be the third, along with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing[b] on the earth. 25 The Lord Almighty will bless them, saying, “Blessed be Egypt my people, Assyria my handiwork, and Israel my inheritance.”

20 In the year that the supreme commander, sent by Sargon king of Assyria, came to Ashdod and attacked and captured it— 2 at that time the Lord spoke through Isaiah son of Amoz. He said to him, “Take off the sackcloth from your body and the sandals from your feet.” And he did so, going around stripped and barefoot.
3 Then the Lord said, “Just as my servant Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot for three years, as a sign and portent against Egypt and Cush,[a] 4 so the king of Assyria will lead away stripped and barefoot the Egyptian captives and Cushite exiles, young and old, with buttocks bared—to Egypt’s shame. 5 Those who trusted in Cush and boasted in Egypt will be dismayed and put to shame. 6 In that day the people who live on this coast will say, ‘See what has happened to those we relied on, those we fled to for help and deliverance from the king of Assyria! How then can we escape?’”

21 A prophecy against the Desert by the Sea:
Like whirlwinds sweeping through the southland,
an invader comes from the desert,
from a land of terror.
2 A dire vision has been shown to me:
The traitor betrays, the looter takes loot.
Elam, attack! Media, lay siege!
I will bring to an end all the groaning she caused.
3 At this my body is racked with pain,
pangs seize me, like those of a woman in labor;
I am staggered by what I hear,
I am bewildered by what I see.
4 My heart falters,
fear makes me tremble;
the twilight I longed for
has become a horror to me.
5 They set the tables,
they spread the rugs,
they eat, they drink!
Get up, you officers,
oil the shields!
6 This is what the Lord says to me:
“Go, post a lookout
and have him report what he sees.
7 When he sees chariots
with teams of horses,
riders on donkeys
or riders on camels,
let him be alert,
fully alert.”
8 And the lookout[a] shouted,
“Day after day, my lord, I stand on the watchtower;
every night I stay at my post.
9 Look, here comes a man in a chariot
with a team of horses.
And he gives back the answer:
‘Babylon has fallen, has fallen!
All the images of its gods
lie shattered on the ground!’”
10 My people who are crushed on the threshing floor,
I tell you what I have heard
from the Lord Almighty,
from the God of Israel.

Someone calls to me from Seir,
“Watchman, what is left of the night?
Watchman, what is left of the night?”
12 The watchman replies,
“Morning is coming, but also the night.
If you would ask, then ask;
and come back yet again.”

13 A prophecy against Arabia:
You caravans of Dedanites,
who camp in the thickets of Arabia,
14 bring water for the thirsty;
you who live in Tema,
bring food for the fugitives.
15 They flee from the sword,
from the drawn sword,
from the bent bow
and from the heat of battle.
16 This is what the Lord says to me: “Within one year, as a servant bound by contract would count it, all the splendor of Kedar will come to an end. 17 The survivors of the archers, the warriors of Kedar, will be few.” The Lord, the God of Israel, has spoken.
A Prophecy Against Babylon
21 A prophecy against the Desert by the Sea:
Like whirlwinds sweeping through the southland,
an invader comes from the desert,
from a land of terror.
2 A dire vision has been shown to me:
The traitor betrays, the looter takes loot.
Elam, attack! Media, lay siege!
I will bring to an end all the groaning she caused.
3 At this my body is racked with pain,
pangs seize me, like those of a woman in labor;
I am staggered by what I hear,
I am bewildered by what I see.
4 My heart falters,
fear makes me tremble;
the twilight I longed for
has become a horror to me.
5 They set the tables,
they spread the rugs,
they eat, they drink!
Get up, you officers,
oil the shields!
6 This is what the Lord says to me:
“Go, post a lookout
and have him report what he sees.
7 When he sees chariots
with teams of horses,
riders on donkeys
or riders on camels,
let him be alert,
fully alert.”
8 And the lookout[a] shouted,
“Day after day, my lord, I stand on the watchtower;
every night I stay at my post.
9 Look, here comes a man in a chariot
with a team of horses.
And he gives back the answer:
‘Babylon has fallen, has fallen!
All the images of its gods
lie shattered on the ground!’”
10 My people who are crushed on the threshing floor,
I tell you what I have heard
from the Lord Almighty,
from the God of Israel.

Someone calls to me from Seir,
“Watchman, what is left of the night?
Watchman, what is left of the night?”
12 The watchman replies,
“Morning is coming, but also the night.
If you would ask, then ask;
and come back yet again.”

13 A prophecy against Arabia:
You caravans of Dedanites,
who camp in the thickets of Arabia,
14 bring water for the thirsty;
you who live in Tema,
bring food for the fugitives.

A Prophecy About Jerusalem
22 A prophecy against the Valley of Vision:
What troubles you now,
that you have all gone up on the roofs,
2 you town so full of commotion,
you city of tumult and revelry?
Your slain were not killed by the sword,
nor did they die in battle.
3 All your leaders have fled together;
they have been captured without using the bow.
All you who were caught were taken prisoner together,
having fled while the enemy was still far away.
4 Therefore I said, “Turn away from me;
let me weep bitterly.
Do not try to console me
over the destruction of my people.”
5 The Lord, the Lord Almighty, has a day
of tumult and trampling and terror
in the Valley of Vision,
a day of battering down walls
and of crying out to the mountains.
6 Elam takes up the quiver,
with her charioteers and horses;
Kir uncovers the shield.
7 Your choicest valleys are full of chariots,
and horsemen are posted at the city gates.
8 The Lord stripped away the defenses of Judah,
and you looked in that day
to the weapons in the Palace of the Forest.
9 You saw that the walls of the City of David
were broken through in many places;
you stored up water
in the Lower Pool.
10 You counted the buildings in Jerusalem
and tore down houses to strengthen the wall.
11 You built a reservoir between the two walls
for the water of the Old Pool,
but you did not look to the One who made it,
or have regard for the One who planned it long ago.
12 The Lord, the Lord Almighty,
called you on that day
to weep and to wail,
to tear out your hair and put on sackcloth.
13 But see, there is joy and revelry,
slaughtering of cattle and killing of sheep,
eating of meat and drinking of wine!
“Let us eat and drink,” you say,
“for tomorrow we die!”
14 The Lord Almighty has revealed this in my hearing: “Till your dying day this sin will not be atoned for,” says the Lord, the Lord Almighty.
15 This is what the Lord, the Lord Almighty, says:
“Go, say to this steward,
to Shebna the palace administrator:
16 What are you doing here and who gave you permission
to cut out a grave for yourself here,
hewing your grave on the height
and chiseling your resting place in the rock?
17 “Beware, the Lord is about to take firm hold of you
and hurl you away, you mighty man.
18 He will roll you up tightly like a ball
and throw you into a large country.
There you will die
and there the chariots you were so proud of
will become a disgrace to your master’s house.
19 I will depose you from your office,
and you will be ousted from your position.
20 “In that day I will summon my servant, Eliakim son of Hilkiah. 21 I will clothe him with your robe and fasten your sash around him and hand your authority over to him. He will be a father to those who live in Jerusalem and to the people of Judah. 22 I will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David; what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. 23 I will drive him like a peg into a firm place; he will become a seat[a] of honor for the house of his father. 24 All the glory of his family will hang on him: its offspring and offshoots—all its lesser vessels, from the bowls to all the jars.
