本日經文提要  (使徒行傳 14:1~17:34)

 

 

 

徒14:1二人在以哥念同進猶太人的會堂，在那裡講的叫猶太人，和希利尼人，信的很多。
徒14:2但那不順從的猶太人，聳動外邦人，叫他們心裡惱恨弟兄。
徒14:3二人在那裡住了多日，倚靠主放膽講道，主藉他們的手，施行神蹟奇事，證明他的恩道。
徒14:4城裡的眾人就分了黨，有附從猶太人的，有附從使徒的。
徒14:5那時，外邦人和猶太人，並他們的官長，一齊擁上來，要凌辱使徒，用石頭打他們。
徒14:6使徒知道了，就逃往呂高尼的路司得，特庇，兩個城，和周圍地方去。
徒14:7在那裡傳福音。
徒14:8路司得城裡坐著一個兩腳無力的人，生來是瘸腿的，從來沒有走過。
徒14:9他聽保羅講道。保羅定睛看他，見他有信心，可得痊癒，
徒14:10就大聲說：你起來，兩腳站直。那人就跳起來而且行走。
徒14:11眾人看見保羅所作的事，就用呂高尼的話，大聲說：有神藉著人形，降臨我們中間了。
徒14:12於是稱巴拿巴為丟斯，稱保羅為希耳米，因為他說話領首。
徒14:13有城外丟斯廟的祭司，牽著牛，拿著花圈，來到門前，要同眾人向使徒獻祭。
徒14:14巴拿巴，保羅，二使徒聽見，就撕開衣裳，跳進眾人中間，喊著說：
徒14:15諸君，為甚麼作這事呢，我們也是人，性情和你們一樣，我們傳福音給你們，是叫你們離棄這些虛妄，歸向那創造天，地，海，和其中萬物的永生神。
徒14:16他在從前的世代，任憑萬國各行其道。
徒14:17然而為自己未嘗不顯出證據來，就如常施恩惠，從天降雨，賞賜豐年，叫你們飲食飽足，滿心喜樂。
徒14:18二人說了這些話，僅僅的攔住眾人不獻祭與他們。
徒14:19但有些猶太人，從安提阿和以哥念來，挑唆眾人，就用石頭打保羅，以為他是死了，便拖到城外。
徒14:20門徒正圍著他，他就起來，走進城去，第二天，同巴拿巴往特庇去，
徒14:21對那城裡的人傳了福音，使好些人作門徒，就回路司得，以哥念，安提阿去，
徒14:22堅固門徒的心，勸他們恆守所信的道，又說：我們進入神的國，必須經歷許多艱難。
徒14:23二人在各教會中選立了長老，又禁食禱告，就把他們交託所信的主。
徒14:24二人經過彼西底，來到旁非利亞。
徒14:25在別加講了道，就下亞大利去。
徒14:26從那裡坐船，往安提阿去。當初他們被眾人所託蒙神之恩，要辦現在所作之工，就是在這地方。
徒14:27到了那裡，聚集了會眾，就述說神藉他們所行的一切事，並神怎樣為外邦人開了信道的門。
徒14:28二人就在那裡同門徒住了多日。

徒15:1有幾個人，從猶太下來，教訓弟兄們說：你們若不按摩西的規條受割禮，不能得救。
徒15:2保羅巴拿巴與他們大大的分爭辯論，眾門徒就定規，叫保羅巴拿巴和本會中幾個人，為所辯論的，上耶路撒冷去，見使徒和長老。
徒15:3於是教會送他們起行，他們經過腓尼基，撒瑪利亞，隨處傳說外邦人歸主的事，叫眾弟兄都甚歡喜。
徒15:4到了耶路撒冷，教會和使徒並長老，都接待他們，他們就述說神同他們所行的一切事。
徒15:5惟有幾個信徒是法利賽教門的人，起來說：必須給外邦人行割禮，吩咐他們遵守摩西的律法。
徒15:6使徒和長老，聚會商議這事。
徒15:7辯論已經多了，彼得就起來，說：諸位弟兄，你們知道神早已在你們中間揀選了我，叫外邦人從我口中得聽福音之道，而且相信。
徒15:8知道人心的神，也為他們作了見證，賜聖靈給他們，正如給我們一樣。
徒15:9又藉著信潔淨了他們的心，並不分他們我們。
徒15:10現在為甚麼試探神，要把我們祖宗和我們所不能負的軛，放在門徒的頸項上呢。
徒15:11我們得救，乃是因主耶穌的恩，和他們一樣，這是我們所信的。
徒15:12眾人都默默無聲，聽巴拿巴和保羅，述說神藉他們在外邦人中所行的神蹟奇事。
徒15:13他們住了聲，雅各就說：諸位弟兄，請聽我的話。
徒15:14方才西門述說神當初怎樣眷顧外邦人，從他們中間選取百姓歸於自己的名下。
徒15:15眾先知的話，也與這意思相合。
徒15:16正如經上所寫的，『此後我要回來，重新修造大衛倒塌的帳幕，把那破壞的，重新修造建立起來。
徒15:17叫餘剩的人，就是凡稱為我名下的外邦人，都尋求主。
徒15:18這話是從創世以來，顯明這事的主說的。』
徒15:19所以據我的意見，不可難為那歸服神的外邦人。
徒15:20只要寫信，吩咐他們禁戒偶像的污穢和姦淫，並勒死的牲畜，和血。
徒15:21因為從古以來，摩西的書在各城有人傳講，每逢安息日，在會堂裡誦讀。
徒15:22那時，使徒和長老並全教會，定意從他們中間揀選人，差他們和保羅，巴拿巴，同住安提阿去，所揀選的，就是稱呼巴撒巴的猶大，和西拉，這兩個人在弟兄中是作首領的。
徒15:23於是寫信交付他們，內中說：使徒和作長老的弟兄們，問安提阿，敘利亞，基利家外邦眾弟兄的安。
徒15:24我們聽說有幾個人，從我們這裡出去，用言語攪擾你們，惑亂你們的心，〔有古卷在此有你們必須受割禮守摩西的律法〕其實我們並沒有吩咐他們。
徒15:25所以我們同心定意，揀選幾個人，差他們同我們所親愛的巴拿巴，和保羅，往你們那裡去。
徒15:26這二人是為我主耶穌基督的名，不顧性命的。
徒15:27我們就差了猶大和西拉，他們也要親口訴說這些事。
徒15:28因為聖靈和我們，定意不將別的重擔放在你們身上，惟有幾件事是不可少的，
徒15:29就是禁戒祭偶像的物，和血，並勒死的牲畜，和姦淫，這幾件你們若能自己禁戒不犯，就好了，願你們平安。
徒15:30他們既奉了差遣，就下安提阿去，聚集眾人，交付書信。
徒15:31眾人念了，因為信上安慰的話，就歡喜了。
徒15:32猶大和西拉也是先知，就用許多話勸勉弟兄，堅固他們。
徒15:33住了些日子，弟兄們打發他們平平安安的回到差遣他們的人那裡去。〔有古卷在此有〕
徒15:34〔惟有西拉定意仍住在那裡〕
徒15:35但保羅和巴拿巴，仍住在安提阿，和許多別人一同教訓人，傳主的道。
徒15:36過了些日子，保羅對巴拿巴說：我們可以回到從前宣傳主道的各城，看望弟兄們景況如何。
徒15:37巴拿巴有意，要帶稱呼馬可的約翰同去。
徒15:38但保羅，因為馬可從前在旁非利亞離開他們，不和他們同去作工，就以為不可帶他去。
徒15:39於是二人起了爭論，甚至彼此分開，巴拿巴帶著馬可，坐船往居比路去。
徒15:40保羅揀選了西拉，也出去，蒙弟兄們把他交於主的恩中。
徒15:41他就走遍敘利亞，基利家，堅固眾教會。

徒16:1保羅來到特庇，又到路司得，在那裡有一個門徒，名叫提摩太，是信主之猶太婦人的兒子，他父親卻是希利尼人。
徒16:2路司得和以哥念的弟兄，都稱讚他。
徒16:3保羅要帶他同去，只因那些地方的猶太人，都知道他父親是希利尼人，就給他行了割禮。
徒16:4他們經過各城，把耶路撒冷使徒和長老所定的條規，交給門徒遵守。
徒16:5於是眾教會信心越發堅固，人數天天加增。
徒16:6聖靈既然禁止他們在亞西亞講道，他們就經過弗呂家加拉太一帶地方。
徒16:7到了每西亞的邊界，他們想要往庇推尼去，耶穌的靈卻不許。
徒16:8他們就越過每西亞，下到特羅亞去。
徒16:9在夜間有異象現與保羅，有一個馬其頓人，站著求他說：請你過到馬其頓來幫助我們。
徒16:10保羅既看見這異象，我們隨即想要往馬其頓去，以為神召我們傳福音給那裡的人聽。
徒16:11於是從特羅亞開船，一直行到撒摩特喇，第二天到了尼亞波利。
徒16:12從那裡來到腓立比，就是馬其頓這一方的頭一個城，也是羅馬的駐防城，我們在這城裡住了幾天。
徒16:13當安息日，我們出城門，到了河邊，知道那裡有一個禱告的地方，我們就坐下對那聚會的婦女講道。
徒16:14有一個賣紫色布疋的婦人，名叫呂底亞，是推雅推喇城的人，素來敬拜神，他聽見了，主就開導他的心，叫他留心聽保羅所講的詁。
徒16:15他和他一家既領了洗，便求我們說：你們若以為我是真信主的，〔或作你們若以為我是忠心事主的〕請到我家裡來住，於是強留我們。
徒16:16後來，我們往那禱告的地方去，有一個使女迎著面來，她被巫鬼所附，用法術，叫她主人們大得財利。
徒16:17她跟隨保羅和我們，喊著說：這些人是至高神的僕人，對你們傳說救人的道。
徒16:18她一連多日這樣喊叫，保羅就心中厭煩，轉身對那鬼說：我奉耶穌基督的名，吩咐你從她身上出來，那鬼當時就出來了。
徒16:19使女的主人們，見得利的指望沒有了，便揪住保羅和西拉，拉他們到市上去見首領。
徒16:20又帶到官長面前說：這些人原是猶太人，竟騷擾我們的城，
徒16:21傳我們羅馬人所不可受，不可行的規矩。
徒16:22眾人就一同起來攻擊他們，官長吩咐剝了他們的衣裳，用棍打。
徒16:23打了許多棍，便將他們下在監裡，囑咐禁卒嚴緊看守。
徒16:24禁卒領了這樣的命，就把他們下在內監裡，兩腳上了木狗。
徒16:25約在半夜，保羅和西拉，禱告唱詩讚美神，眾囚犯也側耳而聽。
徒16:26忽然地大震動，甚至監牢的地基都搖動了，監門立刻全開，眾囚犯的鎖鍊也都鬆開了。
徒16:27禁卒一醒，看見監門全開，以為囚犯已經逃走，就拔刀要自殺。
徒16:28保羅大聲呼叫說：不要傷害自己，我們都在這裡。
徒16:29禁卒叫人拿燈來，就跳進去，戰戰兢兢的，俯伏在保羅西拉面前。
徒16:30又領他們出來，說：二位先生，我當怎樣行才可以得救。
徒16:31他們說：當信主耶穌，你和你一家都必得救。
徒16:32他們就把主的道，講給他和他全家的人聽。
徒16:33當夜，就在那時候，禁卒把他們帶去，洗他們的傷，他和屬乎他的人，立時都受了洗。
徒16:34於是禁卒領他們上自己家裡去，給他們擺上飯，他和全家，因為信了神，都很喜樂。
徒16:35到了天亮，官長打發差役來說：釋放那兩個人罷。
徒16:36禁卒就把這話告訴保羅說：官長打發人來叫釋放你們，如今可以出監，平平安安的去罷。
徒16:37保羅卻說：我們是羅馬人，並沒有定罪，他們就在眾人面前打了我們，又把我們下在監裡，現在要私下攆我們出去麼，這是不行的，叫他們自己來領我們出去罷。
徒16:38差役把這話回稟官長，官長聽見他們是羅馬人，就害怕了。
徒16:39於是來勸他們，領他們出來，請他們離那城。
徒16:40二人出了監，往呂底亞家裡去，見了弟兄們，勸慰他們一番，就走了。

徒17:1保羅和西拉，經過暗妃波里，亞波羅尼亞，來到帖撒羅尼迦，在那裡有猶太人的會堂。
徒17:2保羅照他素常的規矩進去，一連三個安息日，本著聖經與他們辯論，
徒17:3講解陳明基督必須受害，從死裡復活，又說：我所傳與你們的這立耶穌，就是基督。
徒17:4他們中間有些人聽了勸，就附從保羅和西拉，並有許多虔敬的希利尼人，尊貴的婦女也不少。
徒17:5但那不信的猶太人心裡嫉妒，招聚了些市井匪類，搭夥成群，聳動合城的人，闖進耶孫的家，要將保羅西拉帶到百姓那裡。
徒17:6找不著他們，就把耶孫，和幾個弟兄，拉到地方官那裡，喊叫說：那攪亂天下的，也到這裡來了。
徒17:7耶孫收留他們，這些人都違背該撒的命令，說另有一個王耶穌。
徒17:8眾人和地方官，聽見這話，就驚慌了。
徒17:9於是取了耶孫和其餘之人的保狀，就釋放了他們。
徒17:10弟兄們，隨即在夜間打發保羅和西拉往庇哩亞去，二人到了，就進入猶太人的會堂。
徒17:11這地方的人，賢於帖撒羅尼迦的人，甘心領受這道，天天考查聖經，要曉得這道是與不是。
徒17:12所以他們中間多有相信的，又有希利尼尊貴的婦女，男子也不少。
徒17:13但帖撒羅尼迦的猶太人，知道保羅又庇哩亞傳神的道，也就往那裡去，聳動攪擾眾人。
徒17:14當時弟兄們便打發保羅往海邊去，西拉和提摩太仍住在庇哩亞。
徒17:15送保羅的人帶他到了雅典，既領了保羅的命，叫西拉和提摩太速速到他這裡來，就回去了。
徒17:16保羅在雅典等候他們的時候，看見滿城都是偶像，就心裡著急。
徒17:17於是在會堂裡，與猶太人，和虔敬的人，並每日在市上所遇見的人辯論。
徒17:18還有以彼古羅和斯多亞兩門的學士，與他爭論，有的說：這胡言亂語的要說甚麼，有的說：他似乎是傳說外邦鬼神的，這話是因保羅傳講耶穌，與復活的道。
徒17:19他們就把他帶到亞略巴古說：你所講的這新道，我們也可以知道麼。
徒17:20因為你有些奇怪的事，傳到我們耳中，我們願意知道這些事是甚麼意思。
徒17:21（雅典人，和住在那裡的客人，都不顧別的事，只將新聞說說聽聽。）
徒17:22保羅站在亞略巴古當中，說：眾位雅典人哪，我看你們凡事很敬畏鬼神。
徒17:23我遊行的時候，觀看你們所敬拜的，遇見一座壇，上面寫著未識之神，你們所不認識而敬拜的，我現在告訴你們。
徒17:24創造宇宙和其中萬物的神，既是天地的主，就不住人手所造的殿。
徒17:25也不用人手服事，好像缺少甚麼，自己倒將生命，氣息，萬物，賜給萬人。
徒17:26他從一本造出萬族的人，〔本有古卷作血脈〕住在全地上，並且豫先定準他們的年限，和所住的疆界。
徒17:27要叫他們尋求神，或者可以揣摩而得，其實他離我們各人不遠。
徒17:28我們生活，動作，存留，都在乎他，就如你們作詩的，有人說：我們也是他所生的。
徒17:29我們既是神所生的，就不當以為神的神性像人用手藝，心思，所雕刻的金，銀，石。
徒17:30世人蒙昧無知的時候，神並不監察，如今卻吩咐各處的人都要悔改。
徒17:31因為他已經定了日子，要藉著他所設立的人，按公義審判天下，並且叫他從死裡復活，給萬人作可信的憑據。
徒17:32眾人聽見從死裡復活的話，就有譏誚他的，又有人說：我們再聽你講這個罷。
徒17:33於是保羅從他們當中出去了。

 

14 At Iconium Paul and Barnabas went as usual into the Jewish synagogue. There they spoke so effectively that a great number of Jews and Greeks believed. 2 But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the other Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers. 3 So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord, who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to perform signs and wonders. 4 The people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews, others with the apostles. 5 There was a plot afoot among both Gentiles and Jews, together with their leaders, to mistreat them and stone them. 6 But they found out about it and fled to the Lycaonian cities of Lystra and Derbe and to the surrounding country, 7 where they continued to preach the gospel.

8 In Lystra there sat a man who was lame. He had been that way from birth and had never walked. 9 He listened to Paul as he was speaking. Paul looked directly at him, saw that he had faith to be healed 10 and called out, “Stand up on your feet!” At that, the man jumped up and began to walk.

11 When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they shouted in the Lycaonian language, “The gods have come down to us in human form!” 12 Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul they called Hermes because he was the chief speaker. 13 The priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the city, brought bulls and wreaths to the city gates because he and the crowd wanted to offer sacrifices to them.

14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of this, they tore their clothes and rushed out into the crowd, shouting: 15 “Friends, why are you doing this? We too are only human, like you. We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heavens and the earth and the sea and everything in them. 16 In the past, he let all nations go their own way. 17 Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.” 18 Even with these words, they had difficulty keeping the crowd from sacrificing to them.

19 Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowd over. They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead. 20 But after the disciples had gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city. The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe.

The Return to Antioch in Syria
21 They preached the gospel in that city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch, 22 strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said. 23 Paul and Barnabas appointed elders[a] for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust. 24 After going through Pisidia, they came into Pamphylia, 25 and when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia.

26 From Attalia they sailed back to Antioch, where they had been committed to the grace of God for the work they had now completed. 27 On arriving there, they gathered the church together and reported all that God had done through them and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles. 28 And they stayed there a long time with the disciples.

 

15 Certain people came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the believers: “Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved.” 2 This brought Paul and Barnabas into sharp dispute and debate with them. So Paul and Barnabas were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question. 3 The church sent them on their way, and as they traveled through Phoenicia and Samaria, they told how the Gentiles had been converted. This news made all the believers very glad. 4 When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and elders, to whom they reported everything God had done through them.

5 Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, “The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to keep the law of Moses.”

6 The apostles and elders met to consider this question. 7 After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: “Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe. 8 God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. 9 He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. 10 Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear? 11 No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.”

12 The whole assembly became silent as they listened to Barnabas and Paul telling about the signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles through them. 13 When they finished, James spoke up. “Brothers,” he said, “listen to me. 14 Simon[a] has described to us how God first intervened to choose a people for his name from the Gentiles. 15 The words of the prophets are in agreement with this, as it is written:

16 “‘After this I will return
    and rebuild David’s fallen tent.
Its ruins I will rebuild,
    and I will restore it,
17 that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord,
    even all the Gentiles who bear my name,
says the Lord, who does these things’[b]—
18     things known from long ago.[c]
19 “It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. 20 Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood. 21 For the law of Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath.”

The Council’s Letter to Gentile Believers
22 Then the apostles and elders, with the whole church, decided to choose some of their own men and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They chose Judas (called Barsabbas) and Silas, men who were leaders among the believers. 23 With them they sent the following letter:

The apostles and elders, your brothers,

To the Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia:

Greetings.

24 We have heard that some went out from us without our authorization and disturbed you, troubling your minds by what they said. 25 So we all agreed to choose some men and send them to you with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul— 26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 Therefore we are sending Judas and Silas to confirm by word of mouth what we are writing. 28 It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements: 29 You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.

Farewell.

30 So the men were sent off and went down to Antioch, where they gathered the church together and delivered the letter. 31 The people read it and were glad for its encouraging message. 32 Judas and Silas, who themselves were prophets, said much to encourage and strengthen the believers. 33 After spending some time there, they were sent off by the believers with the blessing of peace to return to those who had sent them. [34] [d] 35 But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, where they and many others taught and preached the word of the Lord.

Disagreement Between Paul and Barnabas

36 Some time later Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us go back and visit the believers in all the towns where we preached the word of the Lord and see how they are doing.” 37 Barnabas wanted to take John, also called Mark, with them, 38 but Paul did not think it wise to take him, because he had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in the work. 39 They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus, 40 but Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the believers to the grace of the Lord. 41 He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

 

 

16 Paul came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was Jewish and a believer but whose father was a Greek. 2 The believers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him. 3 Paul wanted to take him along on the journey, so he circumcised him because of the Jews who lived in that area, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. 4 As they traveled from town to town, they delivered the decisions reached by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the people to obey. 5 So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers.

Paul’s Vision of the Man of Macedonia
6 Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. 7 When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to. 8 So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas. 9 During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” 10 After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.

11 From Troas we put out to sea and sailed straight for Samothrace, and the next day we went on to Neapolis. 12 From there we traveled to Philippi, a Roman colony and the leading city of that district[a] of Macedonia. And we stayed there several days.

13 On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate to the river, where we expected to find a place of prayer. We sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there. 14 One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message. 15 When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. “If you consider me a believer in the Lord,” she said, “come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us.

16 Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. 17 She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” 18 She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.

19 When her owners realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to face the authorities. 20 They brought them before the magistrates and said, “These men are Jews, and are throwing our city into an uproar 21 by advocating customs unlawful for us Romans to accept or practice.”

22 The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods. 23 After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. 24 When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.

25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose. 27 The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped. 28 But Paul shouted, “Don’t harm yourself! We are all here!”

29 The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. 33 At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized. 34 The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God—he and his whole household.

35 When it was daylight, the magistrates sent their officers to the jailer with the order: “Release those men.” 36 The jailer told Paul, “The magistrates have ordered that you and Silas be released. Now you can leave. Go in peace.”

37 But Paul said to the officers: “They beat us publicly without a trial, even though we are Roman citizens, and threw us into prison. And now do they want to get rid of us quietly? No! Let them come themselves and escort us out.”

38 The officers reported this to the magistrates, and when they heard that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens, they were alarmed. 39 They came to appease them and escorted them from the prison, requesting them to leave the city. 40 After Paul and Silas came out of the prison, they went to Lydia’s house, where they met with the brothers and sisters and encouraged them. Then they left.

 

 

17 When Paul and his companions had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue. 2 As was his custom, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, 3 explaining and proving that the Messiah had to suffer and rise from the dead. “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Messiah,” he said. 4 Some of the Jews were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a large number of God-fearing Greeks and quite a few prominent women.

5 But other Jews were jealous; so they rounded up some bad characters from the marketplace, formed a mob and started a riot in the city. They rushed to Jason’s house in search of Paul and Silas in order to bring them out to the crowd.[a] 6 But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some other believers before the city officials, shouting: “These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here, 7 and Jason has welcomed them into his house. They are all defying Caesar’s decrees, saying that there is another king, one called Jesus.” 8 When they heard this, the crowd and the city officials were thrown into turmoil. 9 Then they made Jason and the others post bond and let them go.

In Berea
10 As soon as it was night, the believers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. 11 Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. 12 As a result, many of them believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men.

13 But when the Jews in Thessalonica learned that Paul was preaching the word of God at Berea, some of them went there too, agitating the crowds and stirring them up. 14 The believers immediately sent Paul to the coast, but Silas and Timothy stayed at Berea. 15 Those who escorted Paul brought him to Athens and then left with instructions for Silas and Timothy to join him as soon as possible.

In Athens
16 While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols. 17 So he reasoned in the synagogue with both Jews and God-fearing Greeks, as well as in the marketplace day by day with those who happened to be there. 18 A group of Epicurean and Stoic philosophers began to debate with him. Some of them asked, “What is this babbler trying to say?” Others remarked, “He seems to be advocating foreign gods.” They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus and the resurrection. 19 Then they took him and brought him to a meeting of the Areopagus, where they said to him, “May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting? 20 You are bringing some strange ideas to our ears, and we would like to know what they mean.” 21 (All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there spent their time doing nothing but talking about and listening to the latest ideas.)

22 Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “People of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. 23 For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.

24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’[b] As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’[c]

29 “Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by human design and skill. 30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”

32 When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some of them sneered, but others said, “We want to hear you again on this subject.” 33 At that, Paul left the Council. 34 Some of the people became followers of Paul and believed. Among them was Dionysius, a member of the Areopagus, also a woman named Damaris, and a number of others.

徒12:1那時，希律王下手苦害教會中幾個人。
徒12:2用刀殺了約翰的哥哥雅各。
徒12:3他見猶太人喜歡這事，又去捉拿彼得。那時正是除酵的日子。
徒12:4希律拿了彼得收在監裡，交付四班兵丁看守，每班四個人，意思要在逾越節後，把他提出來，當著百姓辦他。
徒12:5於是彼得被囚在監裡，教會卻為他切切的禱告神。
徒12:6希律將要提他出來的前一夜，彼得被兩條鐵鍊鎖著，睡在兩個兵丁當中，看守的人也在門外看守。
徒12:7忽然有主的一個使者，站在旁邊，屋裡有光照耀，天使拍彼得的肋旁，拍醒了他，說：快快起來，那鐵鍊就從他手上脫落下來。
徒12:8天使對他說：束上帶子，穿上鞋，他就那樣作，天使又說：披上外衣跟著我來。
徒12:9彼得就出來跟著他，不知道天使所作是真的，只當見了異象。

徒13:47因為主曾這樣吩咐我們說：『我已經立你作外邦人的光，叫你施行救恩直到地極。』
徒13:48外邦人聽見這話，就歡喜了，讚美神的道，凡豫定得永生的人都信了。

12 It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them. 2 He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword. 3 When he saw that this met with approval among the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This happened during the Festival of Unleavened Bread. 4 After arresting him, he put him in prison, handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring him out for public trial after the Passover.

5 So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.

6 The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. 7 Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists.

8 Then the angel said to him, “Put on your clothes and sandals.” And Peter did so. “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me,” the angel told him. 9 Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea that what the angel was doing was really happening; he thought he was seeing a vision. 10 They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him.

11 Then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know without a doubt that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from Herod’s clutches and from everything the Jewish people were hoping would happen.”

12 When this had dawned on him, he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying. 13 Peter knocked at the outer entrance, and a servant named Rhoda came to answer the door. 14 When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, “Peter is at the door!”

15 “You’re out of your mind,” they told her. When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, “It must be his angel.”

16 But Peter kept on knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished. 17 Peter motioned with his hand for them to be quiet and described how the Lord had brought him out of prison. “Tell James and the other brothers and sisters about this,” he said, and then he left for another place.

18 In the morning, there was no small commotion among the soldiers as to what had become of Peter. 19 After Herod had a thorough search made for him and did not find him, he cross-examined the guards and ordered that they be executed.

Herod’s Death
Then Herod went from Judea to Caesarea and stayed there. 20 He had been quarreling with the people of Tyre and Sidon; they now joined together and sought an audience with him. After securing the support of Blastus, a trusted personal servant of the king, they asked for peace, because they depended on the king’s country for their food supply.

21 On the appointed day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people. 22 They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.” 23 Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.

24 But the word of God continued to spread and flourish.

Barnabas and Saul Sent Off

25 When Barnabas and Saul had finished their mission, they returned from[a] Jerusalem, taking with them John, also called Mark.

13 1 Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. 2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.

On Cyprus
4 The two of them, sent on their way by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and sailed from there to Cyprus. 5 When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. John was with them as their helper.

6 They traveled through the whole island until they came to Paphos. There they met a Jewish sorcerer and false prophet named Bar-Jesus, 7 who was an attendant of the proconsul, Sergius Paulus. The proconsul, an intelligent man, sent for Barnabas and Saul because he wanted to hear the word of God. 8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for that is what his name means) opposed them and tried to turn the proconsul from the faith. 9 Then Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked straight at Elymas and said, 10 “You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord? 11 Now the hand of the Lord is against you. You are going to be blind for a time, not even able to see the light of the sun.”

Immediately mist and darkness came over him, and he groped about, seeking someone to lead him by the hand. 12 When the proconsul saw what had happened, he believed, for he was amazed at the teaching about the Lord.

In Pisidian Antioch
13 From Paphos, Paul and his companions sailed to Perga in Pamphylia, where John left them to return to Jerusalem. 14 From Perga they went on to Pisidian Antioch. On the Sabbath they entered the synagogue and sat down. 15 After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent word to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have a word of exhortation for the people, please speak.”

16 Standing up, Paul motioned with his hand and said: “Fellow Israelites and you Gentiles who worship God, listen to me! 17 The God of the people of Israel chose our ancestors; he made the people prosper during their stay in Egypt; with mighty power he led them out of that country; 18 for about forty years he endured their conduct[a] in the wilderness; 19 and he overthrew seven nations in Canaan, giving their land to his people as their inheritance. 20 All this took about 450 years.

“After this, God gave them judges until the time of Samuel the prophet. 21 Then the people asked for a king, and he gave them Saul son of Kish, of the tribe of Benjamin, who ruled forty years. 22 After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’

23 “From this man’s descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised. 24 Before the coming of Jesus, John preached repentance and baptism to all the people of Israel. 25 As John was completing his work, he said: ‘Who do you suppose I am? I am not the one you are looking for. But there is one coming after me whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.’

26 “Fellow children of Abraham and you God-fearing Gentiles, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent. 27 The people of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize Jesus, yet in condemning him they fulfilled the words of the prophets that are read every Sabbath. 28 Though they found no proper ground for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him executed. 29 When they had carried out all that was written about him, they took him down from the cross and laid him in a tomb. 30 But God raised him from the dead, 31 and for many days he was seen by those who had traveled with him from Galilee to Jerusalem. They are now his witnesses to our people.

32 “We tell you the good news: What God promised our ancestors 33 he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is written in the second Psalm:

“‘You are my son;
    today I have become your father.’[b]
34 God raised him from the dead so that he will never be subject to decay. As God has said,

“‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.’[c]
35 So it is also stated elsewhere:

“‘You will not let your holy one see decay.’[d]
36 “Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed. 37 But the one whom God raised from the dead did not see decay.

38 “Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. 39 Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses. 40 Take care that what the prophets have said does not happen to you:

41 “‘Look, you scoffers,
    wonder and perish,
for I am going to do something in your days
    that you would never believe,
    even if someone told you.’[e]”
42 As Paul and Barnabas were leaving the synagogue, the people invited them to speak further about these things on the next Sabbath. 43 When the congregation was dismissed, many of the Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who talked with them and urged them to continue in the grace of God.

44 On the next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord. 45 When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy. They began to contradict what Paul was saying and heaped abuse on him.

46 Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: “We had to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles. 47 For this is what the Lord has commanded us:

“‘I have made you[f] a light for the Gentiles,
    that you[g] may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’[h]”
48 When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.

49 The word of the Lord spread through the whole region. 50 But the Jewish leaders incited the God-fearing women of high standing and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region. 51 So they shook the dust off their feet as a warning to them and went to Iconium. 52 And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

徒10:3有一天，約在申初，他在異象中，明明看見神的一個使者進去，到他那裡，說：哥尼流。
徒10:4哥尼流定睛看他，驚怕說：主阿，甚麼事呢。天使說：你的禱告，和你的賙濟，達到神面前已蒙記念了。
徒10:5現在你當打發人往約帕去，請那稱呼彼得的西門來。
徒10:6他住在海邊一個硝皮匠西門的家裡，房子在海邊上。

徒10:12裡面有地上各樣四足的走獸，和昆蟲，並天上的飛鳥。
徒10:13又有聲音向他說：彼得，起來，宰了吃。
徒10:14彼得卻說：主阿，這是不可的，凡俗物，和不潔淨的物，我從來沒有吃過。
徒10:15第二次有聲音向他說：神所潔淨的，你不可當作俗物。
徒10:16這樣一連三次，那物隨即收回天上去了。
徒10:17彼得心裡正在猜疑之間，不知所看見的異象是甚麼意思，哥尼流所差來的人，已經訪問到西門的家，站在門外，
徒10:18喊著問，有稱呼彼得的西門住在這裡沒有。
徒10:19彼得還思想那異象的時候，聖靈向他說：有三個人來找你。
徒10:20起來，下去，和他們同往，不要疑惑，因為是我差他們來的。
徒10:21於是彼得下去見那些人，說：我就是你們所找的人，你們來是為甚麼緣故。
徒10:22他們說：百夫長哥尼流是個義人，敬畏神，為猶太通國所稱讚，他蒙一位聖天使指示，叫他請你到他家裡去，聽你的話。
徒10:23彼得就請他們進去，住了一宿。次日起身和他們同去，還有約帕的幾個弟兄同著他去。
徒10:24又次日，他們進入該撒利亞。哥尼流已經請了他的親屬密友，等候他們。
徒10:25彼得一進去，哥尼流就迎接他，俯伏在他腳前拜他。
徒10:26彼得卻拉他說：你起來，我也是人。
徒10:27彼得和他說著話進去，見有好些人在那裡聚集，
徒10:28就對他們說：你們知道猶太人，和別國的人親近來往，本是不合例的，但神已經指示我，無論甚麼人，都不可看作俗而不潔淨的。
徒10:29所以我被請的時候，就不推辭而來，現在請問，你們叫我來有甚麼意思呢。
徒10:30哥尼流說：前四天這個時候，我在家中守著申初的禱告，忽然有一個人，穿著光明的衣裳，站在我面前，
徒10:31說：哥尼流，你的禱告，已蒙垂聽，你的賙濟，達到神面前已蒙記念了。
徒10:32你當打發人往約帕去，請那稱呼彼得的西門來，他住在海邊一個硝皮匠西門的家裡。
徒10:33所以我立時打發人去請你，你來了很好，現今我們都在神面前，要聽主所吩咐你的一切話。
徒10:34彼得就開口說：我真看出神是不偏待人。
徒10:35原來各國中，那敬畏主行義的人，都為主所悅納。
徒10:36神藉著耶穌基督（他是萬有的主）傳和平的福音，將這道賜給以色列人。
徒10:37這話在約翰宣傳洗禮以後，從加利利起，傳遍了猶太。
徒10:38神怎樣以聖靈和能力，膏拿撒勒人耶穌，這都是你們知道的，他周流四方行善事，醫好凡被魔鬼壓制的人，因為神與他同在。
徒10:39他在猶太人之地，並耶路撒冷，所行的一切事，有我們作見證，他們竟把他掛在木頭上殺了。
徒10:40第三日神叫他復活，顯現出來，
徒10:41不是顯現給眾人看，乃是顯現給神豫先所揀選為他作見證的人看，就是我們這些在他從死裡復活以後，和他同吃同喝的人。
徒10:42他吩咐我們傳道給眾人，證明他是神所立定的，要作審判活人死人的主。
徒10:43眾先知也為他作見證，說：凡信他的人，必因他的名，得蒙赦罪。
徒10:44彼得還說這話的時候，聖靈降在一切聽道的人身上。
徒10:45那些奉割禮和彼得同來的信徒，見聖靈的恩賜也澆在外邦人身上，就都希奇。
徒10:46因聽見他們說方言，稱讚神為大。
徒10:47於是彼得說：這些人既受了聖靈，與我們一樣，誰能禁止用水給他們施洗呢。
徒10:48就吩咐奉耶穌基督的名給他們施洗。他們又請彼得住了幾天。

徒11:1使徒和在猶太的眾弟兄，聽說外邦人也領受了神的道。
徒11:2及至彼得上了耶路撒冷，那些奉割禮的門徒和他爭辯說：
徒11:3你進入未受割禮之人的家，和他們一同吃飯了。
徒11:4彼得就開口，把這事挨次給他們講解說：
徒11:5我在約帕城裡禱告的時候，魂遊象外，看見異象，有一物降下，好像一塊大布，繫著四角，從天縋下，直來到我跟前。
徒11:6我定睛觀看，見內中有地上四足的牲畜，和野獸，昆蟲，並天上的飛鳥。
徒11:7我且聽見有聲音向我說：彼得，起來，宰了吃。
徒11:8我說：主阿，這是不可的，凡俗而不潔淨的物，從來沒有入過我的口。
徒11:9第二次，有聲音從天上說：神所潔淨的，你不可當作俗物。
徒11:10這樣一連三次，就都收回天上去了。
徒11:11正當那時，有三個人站在我們所住的房門前，是從該撒利亞差來見我的。
徒11:12聖靈吩咐我和他們同去，不要疑感。〔或作不要分別等類〕同著我去的，還有這六位弟兄，我們都進了那人的家。
徒11:13那人就告訴我們，他如何看見一位天使，站在他屋裡，說：你打發人往約帕去，請那稱呼彼得的西門來。
徒11:14他有話告訴你，可以叫你和你的全家得救。
徒11:15我一開講，聖靈便降在他們身上，正像當初降在我們身上一樣。
徒11:16我就想起主的話說：約翰是用水施洗，但你們要受聖靈的洗。
徒11:17神既然給他們恩賜，像在我們信主耶穌基督的時候，給了我們一樣，我是誰，能攔阻神呢。
徒11:18眾人聽見這話，就不言語了，只歸榮耀與神，說：這樣看來，神也賜恩給外邦人，叫他們悔改得生命了。
徒11:19那些因司提反的事遭患難四散的門徒，直走到腓尼基，和居比路，並安提阿，他們不向別人講道，只向猶太人講。
徒11:20但內中有居比路，和古利奈人，他們到了安提阿，也向希利尼人傳講主穌穌。〔有古卷作也向說希利尼話的猶太人傳講主耶穌〕
徒11:21主與他們同在，信而歸主的人就很多了。
徒11:22這風聲傳到耶路撒冷教會人的耳中，他們就打發巴拿巴出去，走到安提阿為止。
徒11:23他到了那裡，看見神所賜的恩就歡喜，勸勉眾人，立定心志，恆久靠主。
徒11:24這巴拿巴原是個好人，被聖靈充滿，大有信心，於是有許多人歸服了主。
徒11:25他又往大數去找掃羅，
徒11:26找著了，就帶他到安提阿去。他們足有一年的工夫，和教會一同聚集，教訓了許多人，門徒稱為基督徒，是從安提阿起首。
徒11:27當那些日子，有幾位先知從耶路撒冷下到安提阿。
徒11:28內中有一位，名叫亞迦布，站起來，藉著聖靈，指明天下將有大饑荒，這事到革老丟年間果然有了。

 

 

10 At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion in what was known as the Italian Regiment. 2 He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly. 3 One day at about three in the afternoon he had a vision. He distinctly saw an angel of God, who came to him and said, “Cornelius!”

4 Cornelius stared at him in fear. “What is it, Lord?” he asked.

The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God. 5 Now send men to Joppa to bring back a man named Simon who is called Peter. 6 He is staying with Simon the tanner, whose house is by the sea.”

7 When the angel who spoke to him had gone, Cornelius called two of his servants and a devout soldier who was one of his attendants. 8 He told them everything that had happened and sent them to Joppa.

9 About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. 10 He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. 11 He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12 It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. 13 Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”

14 “Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”

15 The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”

16 This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.

17 While Peter was wondering about the meaning of the vision, the men sent by Cornelius found out where Simon’s house was and stopped at the gate. 18 They called out, asking if Simon who was known as Peter was staying there.

19 While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Simon, three[a] men are looking for you. 20 So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”

21 Peter went down and said to the men, “I’m the one you’re looking for. Why have you come?”

22 The men replied, “We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to ask you to come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say.” 23 Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests.

The next day Peter started out with them, and some of the believers from Joppa went along. 24 The following day he arrived in Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends. 25 As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. 26 But Peter made him get up. “Stand up,” he said, “I am only a man myself.”

27 While talking with him, Peter went inside and found a large gathering of people. 28 He said to them: “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile. But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean. 29 So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection. May I ask why you sent for me?”

30 Cornelius answered: “Three days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothes stood before me 31 and said, ‘Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor. 32 Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, who lives by the sea.’ 33 So I sent for you immediately, and it was good of you to come. Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us.”

34 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism 35 but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right. 36 You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. 37 You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

39 “We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross, 40 but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. 41 He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen—by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. 43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues[b] and praising God.

Then Peter said, 47 “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” 48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.

 

11 The apostles and the believers throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. 2 So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized him 3 and said, “You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.”

4 Starting from the beginning, Peter told them the whole story: 5 “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. I saw something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to where I was. 6 I looked into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles and birds. 7 Then I heard a voice telling me, ‘Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.’

8 “I replied, ‘Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’

9 “The voice spoke from heaven a second time, ‘Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’ 10 This happened three times, and then it was all pulled up to heaven again.

11 “Right then three men who had been sent to me from Caesarea stopped at the house where I was staying. 12 The Spirit told me to have no hesitation about going with them. These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man’s house. 13 He told us how he had seen an angel appear in his house and say, ‘Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. 14 He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved.’

15 “As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning. 16 Then I remembered what the Lord had said: ‘John baptized with[a] water, but you will be baptized with[b] the Holy Spirit.’ 17 So if God gave them the same gift he gave us who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could stand in God’s way?”

18 When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, “So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.”

The Church in Antioch
19 Now those who had been scattered by the persecution that broke out when Stephen was killed traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, spreading the word only among Jews. 20 Some of them, however, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus. 21 The Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord.

22 News of this reached the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. 23 When he arrived and saw what the grace of God had done, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts. 24 He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord.

25 Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, 26 and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.

27 During this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. 28 One of them, named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world. (This happened during the reign of Claudius.) 29 The disciples, as each one was able, decided to provide help for the brothers and sisters living in Judea. 30 This they did, sending their gift to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.

徒8:1從這日起，耶路撒冷的教會，大遭逼迫，除了使徒以外，門徒都分散在猶太和撒瑪利亞各處。
徒8:2有虔誠的人，把司提反埋葬了，為他捶胸大哭。
徒8:3掃羅卻殘害教會，進各人的家，拉著男女下在監裡。
徒8:4那些分散的人，往各處去傳道。
徒8:5腓利下撒瑪利亞城去，宣講基督。
徒8:6眾人聽見了，又看見腓利所行的神蹟，就同心合意的聽從他的話。
徒8:7因為有許多人被污鬼附著，那些鬼大聲呼叫，從他們身上出來，還有許多癱瘓的，瘸腿的，都得了醫治。
徒8:8在那城裡，就大有歡喜。
徒8:9有一個人，名叫西門，向來在那城裡行邪術，妄自尊大，使撒瑪利亞的百姓驚奇。
徒8:10無論大小，都聽從他，說：這人就是那稱為神的大能者。
徒8:11他們聽從他，因他久用邪術，使他們驚奇。
徒8:12及至他們信了腓利所傳神國的福音，和耶穌基督的名，連男帶女就受了洗。
徒8:13西門自己也信了，既受了洗，就常與腓利在一處，看見他所行的神蹟和大異能，就甚驚奇。
徒8:14使徒在耶路撒冷，聽見撒瑪利亞人領受了神的道，就打發彼得約翰往他們那裡去。
徒8:15兩個人到了，就為他們禱告，要叫他們受聖靈。
徒8:16因為聖靈還沒有降在他們一個人身上，他們只奉主耶穌的名受了洗。
徒8:17於是使徒按手在他們頭上，他們就受了聖靈。
徒8:18西門看見使徒按手，便有聖靈賜下，就拿錢給使徒，
徒8:19說：把這權柄也給我，叫我手按著誰，誰就可以受聖靈。
徒8:20彼得說：你的銀子，和你一同滅亡罷，因你想神的恩賜，是可以用錢買的。
徒8:21你在這道上，無分無關，因為在神面前，你的心不正。
徒8:22你當懊悔你這罪惡，祈求主，或者你心裡的意念可得赦免。
徒8:23我看出你正在苦膽之中，被罪惡捆綁。
徒8:24西門說：願你們為我求主，叫你們所說的，沒有一樣臨到我身上。
徒8:25使徒既證明主道，而且傳講，就回耶路撒冷去，一路在撒瑪利亞好些村莊傳揚福音。
徒8:26有主的一個使者對腓利說：起來，向南走，往那從耶路撒冷下迦薩的路上去。那路是曠野。
徒8:27腓利就起身去了，不料，有一個埃提阿伯〔即古實見以賽亞十八章一節〕人，是個有大權的太監，在埃提阿伯女王干大基的手下總管銀庫，他上耶路撒冷禮拜去了。
徒8:28現在回來，在車上坐著，念先知以賽亞的書。
徒8:29聖靈對腓利說：你去貼近那車走。
徒8:30腓利就跑到太監那裡，聽見他念先知以賽亞的書，便問他說：你所念的，你明白麼。
徒8:31他說：沒有人指教我，怎能明白呢。於是請腓利上車，與他同坐。
徒8:32他所念的那段經，說：『他像羊被牽到宰殺之地，又像羊羔在剪毛的人手下無聲，他也是這樣不開口。
徒8:33他卑微的時候，人不按公義審判他，〔原文作他的審判被奪去〕誰能述說他的世代，因為他的生命從地上奪去。』
徒8:34太監對腓利說：請問，先知說這話，是指著誰，是指著自己呢，是指著別人呢。
徒8:35腓利就開口從這經上起，對他傳講耶穌。
徒8:36二人正往前走，到了有水的地方，太監說：看哪，這裡有水，我受洗有甚麼妨礙呢。〔有古卷在此有若是一心相信〕
徒8:37〔腓利說你可以他回答說我信耶穌基督是神的兒子〕
徒8:38於是吩咐車站住，腓利和太監二人同下水裡去，腓利就給他施洗。
徒8:39從水裡上來，主的靈把腓利提了去，太監也不再見他了，就歡歡喜喜的走路。
徒8:40後來有人在亞鎖都遇見腓利，他走遍那地方，在各城宣傳福音，直到該撒利亞。

徒9:1掃羅仍然向主的門徒，口吐威嚇兇殺的話，去見大祭司，
徒9:2求文書給大馬色的各會堂，若是找著信奉這道的人，無論男女，都准他捆綁帶到耶路撒冷。
徒9:3掃羅行路，將到大馬色，忽然從天上發光，四面照著他。
徒9:4他就仆倒在地，聽見有聲音對他說：掃羅，掃羅，你為甚麼逼迫我。
徒9:5他說：主阿，你是誰。主說：我就是你所逼迫的耶穌。
徒9:6起來，進城去，你所當作的事，必有人告訴你。
徒9:7同行的人，站在那裡，說不出話來，聽見聲音，卻看不見人。
徒9:8掃羅從地上起來，睜開眼睛，竟不能看見甚麼，有人拉他的手，領他進了大馬色。
徒9:9三日不能看見，也不吃，也不喝。
徒9:10當下在大馬色，有一個門徒，名叫亞拿尼亞，主在異象中對他說：亞拿尼亞，他說：主，我在這裡。
徒9:11主對他說：起來，往直街去，在猶大的家裡，訪問一個大數人名叫掃羅，他正禱告。
徒9:12又看見了一個人，名叫亞拿尼亞，進來按手在他身上，叫他能看見。
徒9:13亞拿尼亞回答說：主阿，我聽見許多人說：這人怎樣在耶路撒冷多多苦害你的聖徒。
徒9:14並且他在這裡有從祭司長得來的權柄捆綁一切求告你名的人。
徒9:15主對亞拿尼亞說：你只管去，他是我所揀選的器皿，要在外邦人和君王並以色列人面前，宣揚我的名。
徒9:16我也要指示他，為我的名必須受許多的苦難。
徒9:17亞拿尼亞就去了，進入那家，把手按在掃羅身上說：兄弟掃羅，在你來的路上，向你顯現的主，就是耶穌，打發我來，叫你能看見，又被聖靈充滿。
徒9:18掃羅的眼睛上，好像有鱗立刻掉下來，他就能看見，於是起來受了洗。
徒9:19吃過飯就健壯了。掃羅和大馬色的門徒同住了些日子。
徒9:20就在各會堂裡宣傳耶穌，說他是神的兒子。
徒9:21凡聽見的人，都驚奇說：在耶路撒冷殘害求告這名的，不是這人麼，並且他到這裡來，特要捆綁他們帶到祭司長那裡。
徒9:22但掃羅越發有能力，駁倒住大馬色的猶太人，證明耶穌是基督。
徒9:23過了好些日子，猶太人商議要殺掃羅。
徒9:24但他們的計謀，被掃羅知道了。他們又晝夜在城門守候要殺他。
徒9:25他的門徒就在夜間，用筐子把他從城牆上縋下去。
徒9:26掃羅到了耶路撒冷，想與門徒結交，他們卻都怕他，不信他是門徒。
徒9:27惟有巴拿巴接待他，領去見使徒，把他在路上怎麼看見主，主怎麼向他說話，他在大馬色，怎麼奉耶穌的名放膽傳道，都述說出來。
徒9:28於是掃羅在耶路撒冷，和門徒出入來往，
徒9:29奉主的名，放膽傳道，並與說希利尼話的猶太人，講論辯駁，他們卻想法子要殺他。
徒9:30弟兄們知道了就送他下該撒利亞，打發他往大數去。
徒9:31那時猶太，加利利，撒瑪利亞，各處的教會都得平安，被建立，凡事敬畏主，蒙聖靈的安慰，人數就增多了。
徒9:32彼得周流四方的時候，也到了居住呂大的聖徒那裡。
徒9:33遇見一個人，名叫以尼雅，得了癱瘓，在褥子上躺臥八年。
徒9:34彼得對他說：以尼雅，耶穌基督醫好你了，起來，收拾你的褥子，他就立刻起來了。
徒9:35凡住呂大和沙崙的人，都看見了他，就歸服主。
徒9:36在約帕有一個女徒，名叫大比大，繙希利尼話，就是多加，〔多加就是羚羊的意思〕他廣行善事，多施賙濟。
徒9:37當時，他患病而死，有人把他洗了，停在樓上。
徒9:38呂大原與約帕相近，門徒聽見彼得在那裡，就打發兩個人去見他，央求他說：快到我們那裡去，不要耽延。
徒9:39彼得就起身和他們同去，到了，便有人領他上樓，眾寡婦都站在彼得旁邊哭，拿多加與他們同在時，所做的裡衣外衣給他看。
徒9:40彼得叫他們都出去，就跪下禱告，轉身對著死人說：大比大，起來，他就睜開眼睛，見了彼得，便坐起來。
徒9:41彼得伸手扶他起來，叫眾聖徒和寡婦進去，把多加活活的交給他們。
徒9:42這事傳遍了約帕，就有許多人信了主。

 

8 And Saul approved of their killing him.

The Church Persecuted and Scattered

 

On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. 2 Godly men buried Stephen and mourned deeply for him. 3 But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off both men and women and put them in prison.

4 Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went. 5 Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah there. 6 When the crowds heard Philip and saw the signs he performed, they all paid close attention to what he said. 7 For with shrieks, impure spirits came out of many, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed. 8 So there was great joy in that city.

Simon the Sorcerer
9 Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great, 10 and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, “This man is rightly called the Great Power of God.” 11 They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his sorcery. 12 But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 13 Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw.

14 When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to Samaria. 15 When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers there that they might receive the Holy Spirit, 16 because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

18 When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money 19 and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”

20 Peter answered: “May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! 21 You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God. 22 Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord in the hope that he may forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. 23 For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin.”

24 Then Simon answered, “Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me.”

25 After they had further proclaimed the word of the Lord and testified about Jesus, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many Samaritan villages.

Philip and the Ethiopian
26 Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” 27 So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian[a] eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means “queen of the Ethiopians”). This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, 28 and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet. 29 The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.”

30 Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked.

31 “How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

32 This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading:

“He was led like a sheep to the slaughter,
    and as a lamb before its shearer is silent,
    so he did not open his mouth.
33 In his humiliation he was deprived of justice.
    Who can speak of his descendants?
    For his life was taken from the earth.”[b]
34 The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” 35 Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.

36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?” [37] [c] 38 And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. 39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing. 40 Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and traveled about, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea.

 

9 Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest 2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. 3 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

5 “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.

“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. 6 “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

7 The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone. 8 Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus. 9 For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything.

10 In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!”

“Yes, Lord,” he answered.

11 The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. 12 In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.”

13 “Lord,” Ananias answered, “I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem. 14 And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.”

15 But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. 16 I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.”

17 Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, 19 and after taking some food, he regained his strength.

Saul in Damascus and Jerusalem
Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. 20 At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God. 21 All those who heard him were astonished and asked, “Isn’t he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name? And hasn’t he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?” 22 Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Messiah.

23 After many days had gone by, there was a conspiracy among the Jews to kill him, 24 but Saul learned of their plan. Day and night they kept close watch on the city gates in order to kill him. 25 But his followers took him by night and lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall.

26 When he came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he really was a disciple. 27 But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey had seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus. 28 So Saul stayed with them and moved about freely in Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord. 29 He talked and debated with the Hellenistic Jews,[a] but they tried to kill him. 30 When the believers learned of this, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.

31 Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace and was strengthened. Living in the fear of the Lord and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.

Aeneas and Dorcas
32 As Peter traveled about the country, he went to visit the Lord’s people who lived in Lydda. 33 There he found a man named Aeneas, who was paralyzed and had been bedridden for eight years. 34 “Aeneas,” Peter said to him, “Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and roll up your mat.” Immediately Aeneas got up. 35 All those who lived in Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord.

36 In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing good and helping the poor. 37 About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room. 38 Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, “Please come at once!”

39 Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them.

40 Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, “Tabitha, get up.” She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. 41 He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called for the believers, especially the widows, and presented her to them alive. 42 This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord. 43 Peter stayed in Joppa for some time with a tanner named Simon.

徒7:1大祭司就說：這些事果然有麼。
徒7:2司提反說：諸位父兄請聽，當日我們的祖宗亞伯拉罕在米所波大米還未住哈蘭的時候，榮耀的神向他顯現，
徒7:3對他說：『你要離開本地和親族，往我所要指示你的地方去。』
徒7:4他就離開迦勒底人之地住在哈蘭，他父親死了以後，神使他從那裡搬到你們現在所住之地。
徒7:5在這地方神並沒有給他產業，連立足之地也沒有給他，但應許要將這地賜給他和他的後裔為業，那時他還沒有兒子。
徒7:6神說：他的後裔，必寄居外邦，那裡的人，要叫他們作奴僕，苦待他們四百年。
徒7:7神又說：使他們作奴僕的那國，我要懲罰，以後他們要出來，在這地方事奉我。
徒7:8神又賜他割禮的約，於是亞伯拉罕生了以撒，第八日姶他行了割禮，以撒生雅各，雅各生十二位先祖。

徒7:29摩西聽見這話就逃走了，寄居於米甸，在那裡生了兩個兒子。
徒7:30過了四十年，在西乃山的曠野，有一位天使，從荊棘火焰中，向摩西顯現。
徒7:31摩西見了那異象，便覺希奇，正進前觀看的時候，有主的聲音說：
徒7:32『我是你列祖的神，就是亞伯拉罕的神，以撒的神，雅各的神。』摩西戰戰兢兢，不敢觀看。
徒7:33主對他說：『把你腳上的鞋脫下來，因為你所站之地是聖地。

徒7:37那曾對以色列人說：『神要從你們弟兄中間，給你們興起一位先知像我的，』就是這位摩西。
徒7:38這人曾在曠野會中，和西乃山上與那對他說話的天使同在，又與我們的祖宗同在，並且領受活潑的聖言傳給我們。
徒7:39我們的祖宗不肯聽從，反棄絕他，心裡歸向埃及，
徒7:40對亞倫說：『你且為我們造些神像，在我們前面引路，因為領我們出埃及地的那個摩西，我們不知道他遭了甚麼事。』
徒7:41那時，他們造了一個牛犢，又拿祭物獻給那像，歡喜自己手中的工作。
徒7:42神就轉臉不顧，任憑他們事奉天上的日月星辰，正如先知書上所寫的說：『以色列家阿，你們四十年間在曠野，豈是將犧牲和祭物獻給我麼。
徒7:43你們抬著摩洛的帳幕，和理番神的星，就是你們所造為要敬拜的像，因此，我要把你們遷到巴比倫外去。』
徒7:44我們的祖宗在曠野，有法櫃的帳幕，是神吩咐摩西叫他照所看見的樣式作的。
徒7:45這帳幕，我們的祖宗相繼承受，當神在他們面前趕出外邦人去的時候，他們同約書亞把帳幕搬進承受為業之地，直存到大衛的日子。
徒7:46大衛在神面前蒙恩，祈求為雅各的神豫備居所。
徒7:47卻是所羅門為神造成殿宇。
徒7:48其實至高者並不住人手所造的，就如先知所言，
徒7:49『主說：天是我的座位，地是我的腳凳，你們要為我造何等的殿宇，那裡是我安息的地方呢。
徒7:50這一切不都是我手所造的麼。』
徒7:51你們這硬著頸項，心與耳未受割禮的人，常時抗拒聖靈，你們的祖宗怎樣，你們也怎樣。
徒7:52那一個先知，不是你們祖宗逼迫呢，他們也把豫先傳說那義者要來的人殺了，如今你們又把那義者賣了，殺了。
徒7:53你們受了天使所傳的律法，竟不遵守
徒7:54眾人聽見這話，就極其惱怒，向司提反咬牙切齒。
徒7:55但司提反被聖靈充滿，定睛望天，看見神的榮耀，又看見耶穌站在神的右邊。
徒7:56就說：我看見天開了，人子站在神的右邊。
徒7:57眾人大聲喊叫，摀著耳朵，齊心擁上前去。
徒7:58把他推到城外，用石頭打他，作見證的人，把衣裳放在一個少年人名叫掃羅的腳前。
徒7:59他們正用石頭打的時候，司提反呼籲主說：求主耶穌接收我的靈魂。

Acts 7 

Stephen’s Speech to the Sanhedrin
7 Then the high priest asked Stephen, “Are these charges true?”

2 To this he replied: “Brothers and fathers, listen to me! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham while he was still in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Harran. 3 ‘Leave your country and your people,’ God said, ‘and go to the land I will show you.’[a]

4 “So he left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Harran. After the death of his father, God sent him to this land where you are now living. 5 He gave him no inheritance here, not even enough ground to set his foot on. But God promised him that he and his descendants after him would possess the land, even though at that time Abraham had no child. 6 God spoke to him in this way: ‘For four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own, and they will be enslaved and mistreated. 7 But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves,’ God said, ‘and afterward they will come out of that country and worship me in this place.’[b] 8 Then he gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision. And Abraham became the father of Isaac and circumcised him eight days after his birth. Later Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs.

9 “Because the patriarchs were jealous of Joseph, they sold him as a slave into Egypt. But God was with him 10 and rescued him from all his troubles. He gave Joseph wisdom and enabled him to gain the goodwill of Pharaoh king of Egypt. So Pharaoh made him ruler over Egypt and all his palace.

11 “Then a famine struck all Egypt and Canaan, bringing great suffering, and our ancestors could not find food. 12 When Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent our forefathers on their first visit. 13 On their second visit, Joseph told his brothers who he was, and Pharaoh learned about Joseph’s family. 14 After this, Joseph sent for his father Jacob and his whole family, seventy-five in all. 15 Then Jacob went down to Egypt, where he and our ancestors died. 16 Their bodies were brought back to Shechem and placed in the tomb that Abraham had bought from the sons of Hamor at Shechem for a certain sum of money.

17 “As the time drew near for God to fulfill his promise to Abraham, the number of our people in Egypt had greatly increased. 18 Then ‘a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt.’[c] 19 He dealt treacherously with our people and oppressed our ancestors by forcing them to throw out their newborn babies so that they would die.

20 “At that time Moses was born, and he was no ordinary child.[d] For three months he was cared for by his family. 21 When he was placed outside, Pharaoh’s daughter took him and brought him up as her own son. 22 Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action.

23 “When Moses was forty years old, he decided to visit his own people, the Israelites. 24 He saw one of them being mistreated by an Egyptian, so he went to his defense and avenged him by killing the Egyptian. 25 Moses thought that his own people would realize that God was using him to rescue them, but they did not. 26 The next day Moses came upon two Israelites who were fighting. He tried to reconcile them by saying, ‘Men, you are brothers; why do you want to hurt each other?’

27 “But the man who was mistreating the other pushed Moses aside and said, ‘Who made you ruler and judge over us? 28 Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?’[e] 29 When Moses heard this, he fled to Midian, where he settled as a foreigner and had two sons.

30 “After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai. 31 When he saw this, he was amazed at the sight. As he went over to get a closer look, he heard the Lord say: 32 ‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.’[f] Moses trembled with fear and did not dare to look.

33 “Then the Lord said to him, ‘Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground. 34 I have indeed seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their groaning and have come down to set them free. Now come, I will send you back to Egypt.’[g]

35 “This is the same Moses they had rejected with the words, ‘Who made you ruler and judge?’ He was sent to be their ruler and deliverer by God himself, through the angel who appeared to him in the bush. 36 He led them out of Egypt and performed wonders and signs in Egypt, at the Red Sea and for forty years in the wilderness.

37 “This is the Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your own people.’[h] 38 He was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors; and he received living words to pass on to us.

39 “But our ancestors refused to obey him. Instead, they rejected him and in their hearts turned back to Egypt. 40 They told Aaron, ‘Make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who led us out of Egypt—we don’t know what has happened to him!’[i] 41 That was the time they made an idol in the form of a calf. They brought sacrifices to it and reveled in what their own hands had made. 42 But God turned away from them and gave them over to the worship of the sun, moon and stars. This agrees with what is written in the book of the prophets:

“‘Did you bring me sacrifices and offerings
    forty years in the wilderness, people of Israel?
43 You have taken up the tabernacle of Molek
    and the star of your god Rephan,
    the idols you made to worship.
Therefore I will send you into exile’[j] beyond Babylon.
44 “Our ancestors had the tabernacle of the covenant law with them in the wilderness. It had been made as God directed Moses, according to the pattern he had seen. 45 After receiving the tabernacle, our ancestors under Joshua brought it with them when they took the land from the nations God drove out before them. It remained in the land until the time of David, 46 who enjoyed God’s favor and asked that he might provide a dwelling place for the God of Jacob.[k] 47 But it was Solomon who built a house for him.

48 “However, the Most High does not live in houses made by human hands. As the prophet says:

49 “‘Heaven is my throne,
    and the earth is my footstool.
What kind of house will you build for me?
says the Lord.
    Or where will my resting place be?
50 Has not my hand made all these things?’[l]
51 “You stiff-necked people! Your hearts and ears are still uncircumcised. You are just like your ancestors: You always resist the Holy Spirit! 52 Was there ever a prophet your ancestors did not persecute? They even killed those who predicted the coming of the Righteous One. And now you have betrayed and murdered him— 53 you who have received the law that was given through angels but have not obeyed it.”

The Stoning of Stephen
54 When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. 55 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”

57 At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, 58 dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul.

59 While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.

徒5:1有一個人，名叫亞拿尼亞，同他的妻子撒非喇，賣了田產。
徒5:2把價銀私自留下幾分，他的妻子也知道，其餘的幾分，拿來放在使徒腳前。
徒5:3彼得說：亞拿尼亞為甚麼撒但充滿了你的心，叫你欺哄聖靈，把田地的價銀私自留下幾分呢。
徒5:4田地還沒有賣，不是你自己的麼，既賣了，價銀不是你作主麼，你怎麼心裡起這意念呢，你不是欺哄人，是欺哄神了。
徒5:5亞拿尼亞聽見這話，就仆倒斷了氣，聽見的人都甚懼怕。
徒5:6有些少年人起來，把他包裹抬出去埋葬了。
徒5:7約過了三小時，他的妻子進來，還不知道這事。
徒5:8彼得對他說：你告訴我，你們賣田地的價銀，就是這些麼。他說：就是這些。
徒5:9彼得說：你們為甚麼同心試探主的靈呢，埋葬你丈夫之人的腳，已到門口，他們也要把你抬出去。
徒5:10婦人立刻仆倒在彼得腳前，斷了氣，那些少年人進來，見他已經死了，就抬出去，埋在他丈夫旁邊。
徒5:11全教會，和聽見這事的人，都甚懼怕。
徒5:12主藉使徒的手，在民間行了許多神蹟奇事，（他們〔或作信的人〕都同心合意的在所羅門的廊下。
徒5:13其餘的人，沒有一個敢貼近他們，百姓卻尊重他們。
徒5:14信而歸主的人，越發增添，連男帶女很多）
徒5:15甚至有人將病人抬到街上，放在床上，或褥子上，指望彼得過來的時候，或者得他的影兒照在甚麼人身上。
徒5:16還有許多人，帶著病人，和被污鬼纏磨的，從耶路撒冷四圍的城邑來，全都得了醫治。
徒5:17大祭司和他的一切同人，就是撒都該教門的人，都起來，滿心忌恨。
徒5:18就下手拿住使徒，收在外監。
徒5:19但主的使者，夜間開了監門，領他們出來，
徒5:20說：你們去站在殿裡，把這生命的道，都講給百姓聽。
徒5:21使徒聽了這話，天將亮的時候，就進殿裡去教訓人。大祭司和他的同人來了，叫齊公會的人，和以色列族的眾長老，就差人到監裡去，要把使徒提出來。
徒5:22但差役到了，不見他們在監裡，就回來稟報說：
徒5:23我們看見監牢關得極妥當，看守的人也站在門外，及至開了門，裡面一個人都不見。
徒5:24守殿官和祭司長聽見這話，心裡犯難，不知這事將來如何。
徒5:25有一個人來稟報說：你們收在監裡的人，現在站在殿裡教訓百姓。
徒5:26於是守殿官和差役去帶使徒來，並沒有用強暴，因為怕百姓用石頭打他們。
徒5:27帶到了，便叫使徒站在公會前，大祭司問他們說：
徒5:28我們不是嚴嚴的禁止你們，不可奉這名教訓人麼，你們倒把你們的道理充滿了耶路撒冷，想要叫這人的血歸到我們身上。
徒5:29彼得和眾使徒回答說：順從神，不順從人，是應當的。
徒5:30你們掛在木頭上殺害的耶穌，我們祖宗的神已經叫他復活。
徒5:31神且用右手將他高舉，〔或作他就是神高舉在自己的右邊〕叫他作君王，作救主，將悔改的心，和赦罪的恩，賜給以色列人。
徒5:32我們為這事作見證，神賜給順從之人的聖靈，也為這事作見證。
徒5:33公會的人聽見就極其惱怒，想要殺他們。
徒5:34但有一個法利賽人，名叫迦瑪列，是眾百姓所敬重的教法師，在公會中站起來，吩咐人把使徒暫且帶到外面去。
徒5:35就對眾人說：以色列人哪，論到這些人，你們應當小心怎樣辦理。
徒5:36從前丟大起來，自誇為大，附從他的人約有四百，他被殺後，附從他的全都散了，歸於無有。
徒5:37此後報名上冊的時候，又有加利利的猶大起來，引誘百姓跟從他，他也滅亡，附從他的人也都四散了。
徒5:38現在我勸你們不要管這些人，任憑他們罷，他們所謀的，所行的，若是出於人，必要敗壞。
徒5:39若是出於神，你們就不能敗壞他們，恐怕你們倒是攻擊神了。
徒5:40公會的人聽從了他，便叫使徒來，把他們打了，又吩咐他們不可奉耶穌的名講道，就把他們釋放了。
徒5:41他們離開公會，心裡歡喜，因被算是配為這名受辱。
徒5:42他們就每日在殿裡，在家裡，不住的教訓人，傳耶穌是基督。

徒6:1那時，門徒增多，有說希利尼話的猶太人，向希伯來人發怨言，因為在天天的供給上忽略了他們的寡婦。
徒6:2十二使徒叫眾門徒來，對他們說：我們撇下神的道，去管理飯食，原是不合宜的。
徒6:3所以弟兄們，當從你們中間選出七個有好名聲，被聖靈充滿，智慧充足的人，我們就派他們管理這事。
徒6:4但我們要專心以祈禱傳道為事。
徒6:5大眾都喜悅這話，就揀選了司提反，乃是大有信心，聖靈充滿的人，又揀選腓利，伯羅哥羅，尼迦挪，提門，巴米拿，並進猶太教的安提阿人尼哥拉。
徒6:6叫他們站在使徒面前，使徒禱告了，就按手在他們頭上。
徒6:7神的道興旺起來，在耶路撒冷門徒數目加增的甚多，也有許多祭司信從了這道。
徒6:8司提反滿得恩惠能力，在民間行了大奇事和神蹟。
徒6:9當時有稱利百地拿會堂的幾個人，並有古利奈，亞力山大，基利家，亞西亞，各處會堂的幾個人，都起來，和司提反辯論。
徒6:10司提反是以智慧和聖靈說話，眾人敵擋不住。
徒6:11就買出人來說：我們聽見他說謗讟摩西，和神的話。
徒6:12他們又聳動了百姓，長老，並文士，就忽然來捉拿他，把他帶到公會去，
徒6:13設下假見證說：這個人說話，不住的蹧踐聖所和律法。
徒6:14我們曾聽見他說：這拿撒勒人耶穌，要毀壞此地，也要改變摩西所交給我們的規條。

 

5 Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. 2 With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.

3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 4 Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”

5 When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened. 6 Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.

7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 Peter asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?”

“Yes,” she said, “that is the price.”

9 Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”

10 At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.

The Apostles Heal Many
12 The apostles performed many signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers used to meet together in Solomon’s Colonnade. 13 No one else dared join them, even though they were highly regarded by the people. 14 Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number. 15 As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by. 16 Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them were healed.

The Apostles Persecuted
17 Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy. 18 They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. 19 But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out. 20 “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people all about this new life.”

21 At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told, and began to teach the people.

When the high priest and his associates arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin—the full assembly of the elders of Israel—and sent to the jail for the apostles. 22 But on arriving at the jail, the officers did not find them there. So they went back and reported, 23 “We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.” 24 On hearing this report, the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests were at a loss, wondering what this might lead to.

25 Then someone came and said, “Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people.” 26 At that, the captain went with his officers and brought the apostles. They did not use force, because they feared that the people would stone them.

27 The apostles were brought in and made to appear before the Sanhedrin to be questioned by the high priest. 28 “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name,” he said. “Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man’s blood.”

29 Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings! 30 The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead—whom you killed by hanging him on a cross. 31 God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might bring Israel to repentance and forgive their sins. 32 We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”

33 When they heard this, they were furious and wanted to put them to death. 34 But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, who was honored by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside for a little while. 35 Then he addressed the Sanhedrin: “Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men. 36 Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed, all his followers were dispersed, and it all came to nothing. 37 After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census and led a band of people in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered. 38 Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”

40 His speech persuaded them. They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

41 The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. 42 Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.

 

 

6 In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews[a] among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. 2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. 3 Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them 4 and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”

5 This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. 6 They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.

7 So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.

Stephen Seized
8 Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people. 9 Opposition arose, however, from members of the Synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called)—Jews of Cyrene and Alexandria as well as the provinces of Cilicia and Asia—who began to argue with Stephen. 10 But they could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke.

11 Then they secretly persuaded some men to say, “We have heard Stephen speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God.”

12 So they stirred up the people and the elders and the teachers of the law. They seized Stephen and brought him before the Sanhedrin. 13 They produced false witnesses, who testified, “This fellow never stops speaking against this holy place and against the law. 14 For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs Moses handed down to us.”

15 All who were sitting in the Sanhedrin looked intently at Stephen, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

徒1:1提阿非羅阿，我已經作了前書，論到耶穌開頭一切所教訓的，
徒1:2直到他藉著聖靈，吩咐所揀選的使徒，以後被接上升的日子為止。
徒1:3他受害之後，用許多的憑據，將自己活活的顯給使徒看，四十天之久向他們顯現，講說神國的事。
徒1:4耶穌和他們聚集的時候，囑咐他們說：不要離開耶路撒冷，要等候父所應許的，就是你們聽見我說過的。
徒1:5約翰是用水施洗，但不多幾日，你們要受聖靈的洗。
徒1:6他們聚集的時候，問耶穌說：主阿，你復興以色列國，就在這時候嗎。
徒1:7耶穌對他們說：父憑著自己的權柄，所定的時候日期，不是你們可以知道的。

徒1:18這人用他作惡的工價，買了一塊田，以後身子仆倒，肚腹崩裂，腸子都流出來。
徒1:19住在耶路撒冷的眾人都知道這事，所以按著他們那裡的話，給那塊田起名叫亞革大馬，就是血田的意思。
徒1:20因為詩篇上寫著說：『願他的住處，變為荒場，無人在內居住。』又說：『願別人得他的職分。』
徒1:21所以主耶穌在我們中間始終出入的時候，
徒1:22就是從約翰施洗起，直到主離開我們被接上升的日子為止，必須從那常與我們作伴的人中，立一位與我們同作耶穌復活的見證。
徒1:23於是選舉兩個人，就是那叫作巴撒巴又稱呼猶士都的約瑟，和馬提亞。
徒1:24眾人就禱告說：主阿，你知道萬人的心，求你從這兩個人中，指明你所揀選的是誰，叫他得這使徒的位分，這位分猶大已經丟棄，往自己的地方去了。

徒1:26於是眾人為他們搖籤，搖出馬提亞來，他就和十一個使徒同列。

徒2:1五旬節到了，門徒都聚集在一處。
徒2:2忽然從天上有響聲下來，好像一陣大風吹過，充滿了他們所坐的屋子。
徒2:3又有舌頭如火焰顯現出來，分開落在他們各人頭上。
徒2:4他們就都被聖靈充滿，按著聖靈所賜的口才，說起別國的話來。
徒2:5那時，有虔誠的猶太人，從天下各國來，住在耶路撒冷。
徒2:6這聲音一響，眾人都來聚集，各人聽見門徒用眾人的鄉談說話，就甚納悶。
徒2:7都驚訝希奇說：看哪，這說話的不都是加利利人麼。
徒2:8我們各人，怎麼聽見他們說我們生來所用的鄉談呢。
徒2:9我們帕提亞人，瑪代人，以攔人，和住在米所波大米，猶太，加帕多家，本都，亞西亞，
徒2:10弗呂家，旁非利亞，埃及的人，並靠近古利奈的呂彼亞一帶地方的人，從羅馬來的客旅中，或是猶太人，或是進猶太教的人，
徒2:11革哩底和亞拉伯人，都聽見他們用我們的鄉談，講說神的大作為。
徒2:12眾人就都驚訝猜疑，彼此說：這是甚麼意思呢。
徒2:13還有人譏誚說：他們無非是新酒灌滿了。
徒2:14彼得和十一個使徒，站起，高聲說：猶太人，和一切住在耶路撒冷的人哪，這件事你們當知道，也當側耳聽我的話。
徒2:15你們想這些人是醉了，其實不是醉了，因為時候剛到巳初。
徒2:16這正是先知約珥所說的。
徒2:17『神說：在末後的日子，我要將我的靈澆灌凡有血氣的，你們的兒女要說豫言，你們的少年人要見異象，老年人要作異夢。
徒2:18在那些日子，我要將我的靈澆灌我的僕人和使女，他們就要說豫言。
徒2:19在天上我要顯出奇事，在地下我要顯出神蹟，有血，有火，有煙霧。
徒2:20日頭要變為黑暗，月亮要變為血，這都在主大而明顯的日子未到以前。
徒2:21到那時候，凡求告主名的，就必得救。』
徒2:22以色列人哪，請聽我的話，神藉著拿撒勒人耶穌，在你們中間施行異能奇事神蹟，將他證明出來，這是你們自己知道的。
徒2:23他既按著神的定旨先見，被交與人，你們就藉著無法之人的手，把他釘在十字架上殺了。
徒2:24神卻將死的痛苦解釋了，叫他復活，因為他原不能被死拘禁。
徒2:25大衛指著他說：『我看見主常在我眼前，他在我右邊，叫我不至於搖動。
徒2:26所以我心裡歡喜，我的靈〔原文作舌〕快樂，並且我的肉身要安居在指望中。
徒2:27因你必不將我的靈魂撇在陰間，也不叫你的聖者見朽壞。
徒2:28你已將生命的道路指示我，必叫我因見你的面，〔或作叫我在你面前〕得著滿足的快樂。』
徒2:29弟兄們，先祖大衛的事，我可以明明對你們說：他死了，也葬埋了，並且他的墳墓，直到今日還在我們這裡。
徒2:30大衛既是先知，又曉得神曾向他起誓，要從他的後裔中，立一位坐在他的寶座上。
徒2:31就豫先看明這事，講論基督復活說：他的靈魂，不撇在陰間，他的肉身，也不見朽壞，
徒2:32這耶穌，神已經叫他復活了，我們都為這事作見證。
徒2:33他既被神的右手高舉，〔或作他既高舉在神的右邊〕又從父受了所應許的聖靈，就把你們所看見所聽見的，澆灌下來。
徒2:34大衛並沒有升到天上，但自己說：『主對我主說：你坐在我的右邊，
徒2:35等我使你仇敵作你的腳凳。』
徒2:36故此，以色列全家當確實的知道，你們釘在十字架上的這位耶穌，神已經立他為主為基督了。
徒2:37眾人聽見這話，覺得扎心，就對彼得和其餘的使徒說：弟兄們，我們當怎樣行。
徒2:38彼得說：你們各人要悔改，奉耶穌基督的名受洗，叫你們的罪得赦，就必領受所賜的聖靈。
徒2:39因為這應許是給你們，和你們的兒女，並一切在遠方的人，就是主我們神所召來的。
徒2:40彼得還用許多話作見證，勸勉他們說：你們當救自己脫離這彎曲的世代。
徒2:41於是領受他話的人，就受了洗，那一天，門徒約添了三千人。
徒2:42都恆心遵守使徒的教訓，彼此交接，擘餅，祈禱。
徒2:43眾人都懼怕，使徒又行了許多奇事神蹟。
徒2:44信的人都在一處，凡物公用。
徒2:45並且賣了田產家業，照各人所需用的分給各人。
徒2:46他們天天同心合意恆切的在殿裡，且在家中擘餅，存著歡喜誠實的心用飯，
徒2:47讚美神，得眾民的喜愛。主將得救的人，天天加給他們。

徒3:1申初禱告的時候，彼得，約翰，上聖殿去。
徒3:2有一個人，生來是瘸腿的，天天被人抬來，放在殿的一個門口，那門名叫美門，要求進殿的人賙濟。
徒3:3他看見彼得約翰將要進殿，就求他們賙濟。
徒3:4彼得約翰定睛看他，彼得說：你看我們。
徒3:5那人就留意看他們，指望得著甚麼。
徒3:6彼得說：金銀我都沒有，只把我所有的給你，我奉拿撒勒人耶穌基督的名，叫你起來行走。
徒3:7於是拉著他的右手，扶他起來，他的腳和踝子骨，立刻健壯了。
徒3:8就跳起來，站著，又行走，同他們進了殿，走著，跳著，讚美神。
徒3:9百姓都看見他行走，讚美神。
徒3:10認得他是那素常坐在殿的美門口求賙濟的，就因他所遇著的事，滿心希奇驚訝。
徒3:11那人正在稱為所羅門的廊下，拉著彼得，約翰，眾百姓一齊跑到他們那裡，很覺希奇。
徒3:12彼得看見，就對百姓說：以色列人哪，為甚麼把這事當作希奇呢，為甚麼定睛看我們，以為我們憑自己的能力和虔誠，使這人行走呢。
徒3:13亞伯拉罕，以撒，雅各的神，就是我們列祖的神，已經榮耀了他的僕人耶穌，〔僕人或作兒子〕你們卻把他交付彼拉多，彼拉多定意要釋放他，你們竟在彼拉多面前棄絕了他。
徒3:14你們棄絕了那聖潔公義者，反求著釋放一個兇手給你們。
徒3:15你們殺了那生命的主，神卻叫他從死裡復活了，我們都是為這事作見證。
徒3:16我們因信他的名，他的名便叫你們所看見所認識的這人，健壯了，正是他所賜的信心，叫這人在你們眾人面前全然好了。
徒3:17弟兄們，我曉得你們作這事，是出於不知，你們的官長也是如此。
徒3:18但神曾藉眾先知的口，豫言基督將要受害，就這樣應驗了。
徒3:19所以你們當悔改歸正，使你們的罪得以塗抹，這樣，那安舒的日子，就必從主面前來到。
徒3:20主也必差遣所豫定給你們的基督耶穌降臨。
徒3:21天必留他，等到萬物復興的時候，就是神從創世以來，藉著聖先知的口所說的。
徒3:22摩西曾說：『主神要從你們弟兄中間，給你們興起一位先知像我，凡他向你們所說的，你們都要聽從。
徒3:23凡不聽從那先知的，必要從民中全然滅絕。』
徒3:24從撒母耳以來的眾先知，凡說豫言的，也都說到這些日子。
徒3:25你們是先知的子孫，也承受神與你們祖宗所立的約，就是對亞伯拉罕說：地上萬族，都要因你的後裔得福。
徒3:26神既興起他的僕人，〔或作兒子〕就先差他到你們這裡來，賜福給你們，叫你們各人回轉，離開罪惡。

徒4:1使徒對百姓說話的時候，祭司們和守殿官，並撒都該人，忽然來了。
徒4:2因他們教訓百姓，本著耶穌，傳說死人復活，就很煩惱。
徒4:3於是下手拿住他們，因為天已經晚了，就把他們押到第二天。
徒4:4但聽道之人，有許多信的，男丁數目，約到五千。
徒4:5第二天，官府，長老，和文士，在耶路撒冷聚會。
徒4:6又有大祭司亞那，和該亞法，約翰，亞力山大，並大祭司的親族都在那裡。
徒4:7叫使徒站在當中，就問他們說：你們用甚麼能力，奉誰的名，作這事呢。
徒4:8那時，彼得被聖靈充滿，對他們說：
徒4:9治民的官府，和長老阿，倘若今日，因為在殘疾人身上所行的善事，查問我們他是怎麼得了痊癒。
徒4:10你們眾人，和以色列百姓，都當知道，站在你們面前的這人得痊癒，是因你們所釘十字架，神叫他從死裡復活的，拿撒勒人耶穌基督的名。
徒4:11他是你們匠人所棄的石頭，已成了房角的頭塊石頭。
徒4:12除他以外，別無拯救，因為在天下人間，沒有賜下別的名，我們可以靠著得救。
徒4:13他們見彼得約翰的膽量，又看出他們原是沒有學問的小民，就希奇，認明他們是跟過耶穌的。
徒4:14又看見那治好了的人，和他們一同站著，就無話可駁。
徒4:15於是吩咐他們從公會出去，就彼此商議說：
徒4:16我們當怎樣辦這兩個人呢，因為他們誠然行了一件明顯的神蹟，凡住耶路撒冷的人都知道，我們也不能說沒有。
徒4:17惟恐這事越發傳揚在民間，我們必須恐嚇他們，叫他們不再奉這名對人講論。
徒4:18於是叫了他們來，禁止他們，總不可奉耶穌的名講論教訓人。
徒4:19彼得約翰說：聽從你們，不聽從神，這在神面前合理不合理，你們自己酌量罷。
徒4:20我們所看見所聽見的，不能不說。
徒4:21官長為百姓的緣故，想不出法子刑罰他們，又恐嚇一番，把他們釋放了，這是因眾人為所行的奇事，都歸榮耀與神。
徒4:22原來藉著神蹟醫好的那人，有四十多歲了。
徒4:23二人既被釋放，就到會友那裡去，把祭司長和長老所說的話，都告訴他們。
徒4:24他們聽見了，就同心合意的，高聲向神說：主阿，你是造天，地，海，和其中萬物的。
徒4:25你曾藉著聖靈，託你僕人我們祖宗大衛的口，說：『外邦為甚麼爭鬧，萬民為甚麼謀算虛妄的事。
徒4:26世上的君王一齊起來，臣宰也聚集，要敵擋主，並主的受高膏者。〔或作基督〕』
徒4:27希律和本丟彼拉多，外邦人和以色列民，果然在這城裡聚集，要攻打你所膏的聖僕耶穌，〔僕或作子〕
徒4:28成就你手和你意旨所豫定必有的事。
徒4:29他們恐嚇我們，現在求主鑒察，一面叫你僕人大放膽量，講你的道，一面伸出你的手來，醫治疾病，並且使神蹟奇事，因著你聖僕耶穌的名行出來。〔僕或作子〕

徒4:31禱告完了，聚會的地方震動，他們就都被聖靈充滿，放膽講論神的道。
徒4:32那許多信的人，都是一心一意的，沒有一人說：他的東西有一樣是自己的，都是大家公用。
徒4:33使徒大有能力，見證主耶穌復活，眾人也都蒙大恩。
徒4:34內中也沒有一個缺乏的，因為人人將田產房屋都賣了，把所賣的價銀拿來，放在使徒腳前。
徒4:35照各人所需用的，分給各人。
徒4:36有一個利未人，生在居比路，名叫約瑟，使徒稱他為巴拿巴。（巴拿巴繙出來，就是勸慰子）
徒4:37他有田地，也賣了，把價銀拿來，放在使徒腳前。

 

 

 

 

1 In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. 3 After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with[a] water, but in a few days you will be baptized with[b] the Holy Spirit.”

6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”

7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

Matthias Chosen to Replace Judas
12 Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day’s walk[c] from the city. 13 When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. 14 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.

15 In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty) 16 and said, “Brothers and sisters,[d] the Scripture had to be fulfilled in which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through David concerning Judas, who served as guide for those who arrested Jesus. 17 He was one of our number and shared in our ministry.”

18 (With the payment he received for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out. 19 Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.)

20 “For,” said Peter, “it is written in the Book of Psalms:

“‘May his place be deserted;
    let there be no one to dwell in it,’[e]
and,

“‘May another take his place of leadership.’[f]
21 Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, 22 beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection.”

23 So they nominated two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. 24 Then they prayed, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen 25 to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.” 26 Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.

The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost

 

2 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.

5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,[b] 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”

13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”

Peter Addresses the Crowd
14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 “‘In the last days, God says,
    I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
    your young men will see visions,
    your old men will dream dreams.
18 Even on my servants, both men and women,
    I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
    and they will prophesy.
19 I will show wonders in the heavens above
    and signs on the earth below,
    blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20 The sun will be turned to darkness
    and the moon to blood
    before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21 And everyone who calls
    on the name of the Lord will be saved.’[c]
22 “Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23 This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men,[d] put him to death by nailing him to the cross. 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. 25 David said about him:

“‘I saw the Lord always before me.
    Because he is at my right hand,
    I will not be shaken.
26 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
    my body also will rest in hope,
27 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,
    you will not let your holy one see decay.
28 You have made known to me the paths of life;
    you will fill me with joy in your presence.’[e]
29 “Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. 30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. 31 Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay. 32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. 33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said,

“‘The Lord said to my Lord:
    “Sit at my right hand
35 until I make your enemies
    a footstool for your feet.”’[f]
36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”

37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”

38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

The Fellowship of the Believers

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

 

 

3 One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. 2 Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. 3 When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. 4 Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” 5 So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.

6 Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” 7 Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. 8 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. 9 When all the people saw him walking and praising God, 10 they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

Peter Speaks to the Onlookers
11 While the man held on to Peter and John, all the people were astonished and came running to them in the place called Solomon’s Colonnade. 12 When Peter saw this, he said to them: “Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? 13 The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go. 14 You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you. 15 You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this. 16 By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see.

17 “Now, fellow Israelites, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders. 18 But this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying that his Messiah would suffer. 19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, 20 and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus. 21 Heaven must receive him until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets. 22 For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you. 23 Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from their people.’[a]

24 “Indeed, beginning with Samuel, all the prophets who have spoken have foretold these days. 25 And you are heirs of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers. He said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed.’[b] 26 When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.”

 

 

4 The priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to Peter and John while they were speaking to the people. 2 They were greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people, proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead. 3 They seized Peter and John and, because it was evening, they put them in jail until the next day. 4 But many who heard the message believed; so the number of men who believed grew to about five thousand.

5 The next day the rulers, the elders and the teachers of the law met in Jerusalem. 6 Annas the high priest was there, and so were Caiaphas, John, Alexander and others of the high priest’s family. 7 They had Peter and John brought before them and began to question them: “By what power or what name did you do this?”

8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! 9 If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, 10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. 11 Jesus is

“‘the stone you builders rejected,
    which has become the cornerstone.’[a]
12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. 14 But since they could see the man who had been healed standing there with them, there was nothing they could say. 15 So they ordered them to withdraw from the Sanhedrin and then conferred together. 16 “What are we going to do with these men?” they asked. “Everyone living in Jerusalem knows they have performed a notable sign, and we cannot deny it. 17 But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name.”

18 Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! 20 As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”

21 After further threats they let them go. They could not decide how to punish them, because all the people were praising God for what had happened. 22 For the man who was miraculously healed was over forty years old.

The Believers Pray
23 On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. 24 When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them. 25 You spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of your servant, our father David:

“‘Why do the nations rage
    and the peoples plot in vain?
26 The kings of the earth rise up
    and the rulers band together
against the Lord
    and against his anointed one.[b]’[c]
27 Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed. 28 They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen. 29 Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. 30 Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”

31 After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

The Believers Share Their Possessions
32 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. 33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all 34 that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35 and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.

36 Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means “son of encouragement”), 37 sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles’ feet.

約18:1耶穌說了這話，就同門徒出去，過了汲淪溪，在那裡有一個園子，他和門徒進去了。
約18:2賣耶穌的猶大也知道那地方，因為耶穌和門徒屢次上那裡去聚集。
約18:3猶大領了一隊兵，和祭司長並法利賽人的差役，拿著燈籠，火把，兵器，就來到園裡。
約18:4耶穌知道將要臨到自己的一切事，就出來，對他們說：你們找誰。
約18:5他們回答說：找拿撒勒人耶穌。耶穌說：我就是。賣他的猶大也同他們站在那裡。
約18:6耶穌一說我就是，他們就退後倒在地上。
約18:7他又問他們說：你們找誰。他們說：找拿撒勒人耶穌。
約18:8耶穌說：我已經告訴你們，我就是，你們若找我，就讓這些人去罷。
約18:9這要應驗耶穌從前的話，說：你所賜給我的人，我沒有失落一個。
約18:10西門彼得帶著一把刀，就拔出來，將大祭司的僕人砍了一刀，削掉他的右耳，那僕人名叫馬勒古。
約18:11耶穌就對彼得說：收刀入鞘罷。我父所給我的那杯，我豈可不喝呢。
約18:12那隊兵和千夫長並猶太人的差役，就拿住耶穌，把他捆綁了。
約18:13先帶到亞那面前，因為亞那是本年作大祭司該亞法的岳父。
約18:14這該亞法，就是從前向猶太人發議論說：一個人替百姓死是有益的那位。
約18:15西門彼得跟著耶穌，還有一個門徒跟著，那門徒是大祭司所認識的，他就同耶穌進了大祭司的院子。
約18:16彼得卻站在門外，大祭司所認識的那個門徒出來，和看門的使女說了一聲，就領彼得進去。
約18:17那看門的使女對彼得說：你不也是這人的門徒麼，他說：我不是。
約18:18僕人和差役，因為天冷，就生了炭火，站在那裡烤火，彼得也同他們站著烤火。
約18:19大祭司就以耶穌的門徒和他的教訓盤問他。
約18:20耶穌回答說：我從來是明明的對世人說話，我常在會堂和殿裡，就是猶太人聚集的地方，教訓人，我在暗地裡，並沒有說甚麼。
約18:21你為甚麼問我呢，可以問那聽見的人，我對他們說的是甚麼，我所說的，他們都知道。
約18:22耶穌說了這話，旁邊站著的一個差役，用手掌打他說：你這樣回答大祭司麼。
約18:23耶穌說：我若說的不是，你可以指證那不是，我若說的是，你為甚麼打我呢。
約18:24亞那就把耶穌解到大祭司該亞法那裡，仍是捆著解去的。
約18:25西門彼得正站著烤火，有人對他說：你不也是他的門徒麼。彼得不承認，說：我不是。
約18:26有大祭司的一個僕人，是彼得削掉耳朵那人的親屬，說：我不是看見你同他在園子裡麼。
約18:27彼得又不承認，立時雞就叫了。
約18:28眾人將耶穌，從該亞法那裡往衙門內解去，那時天還早，他們自己卻不進衙門，恐怕染了污穢，不能吃逾越節的筵席。
約18:29彼拉多就出來，到他們那裡，說：你們告這人是為甚麼事呢。
約18:30他們回答說：這人若不是作惡的，我們就不把他交給你。
約18:31彼拉多說：你們自己帶他去，按著你們的律法審問他罷。猶太人說：我們沒有殺人的權柄。
約18:32這要應驗耶穌所說：自己將要怎樣死的話了。
約18:33彼拉多又進了衙門，叫耶穌來，對他說：你是猶太人的王麼。
約18:34耶穌回答說：這話是你自己說的，還是別人論我對你說的呢。
約18:35彼拉多說：我豈是猶太人呢，你本國的人和祭司長，把你交給我，你作了甚麼事呢。
約18:36耶穌回答說：我的國不屬這世界，我的國若屬這世界，我的臣僕必要爭戰，使我不至於被交給猶太人，只是我的國不屬這世界。
約18:37彼拉多就對他說：這樣，你是王麼。耶穌回答說：你說我是王，我為此而生，也為此來到世間，特為給真理作見證，凡屬真理的人，就聽我的話。
約18:38彼拉多說：真理是甚麼呢。說了這話，又出來到猶太人那裡，對他們說：我查不出他有甚麼罪來。
約18:39但你們有個規矩，在逾越節要我給你們釋放一個人，你們要我給你們釋放猶太人的王麼。
約18:40他們又喊著說：不要這人，要巴拉巴。這巴拉巴是個強盜。

約19:1當下彼拉多將耶穌鞭打了。
約19:2兵丁用荊棘編作冠冕，戴在他頭上，給他穿上紫袍。
約19:3又挨近他說：恭喜猶太人的王阿，他們就用手掌打他。
約19:4彼拉多又出來對眾人說：我帶他出來見你們，叫你們知道我查不出他有甚麼罪來。
約19:5耶穌出來，戴著荊棘冠冕，穿著紫袍。彼拉多對他們說：你們看這個人。
約19:6祭司長和差役看見他，就喊著說：釘他十字架，釘他十字架。彼拉多說：你們自己把他釘十字架罷，我查不出他有甚麼罪來。
約19:7猶太人回答說：我們有律法，按那律法，他是該死的，因他以自己為神的兒子。
約19:8彼拉多聽見這話，越發害怕。
約19:9又進衙門，對耶穌說：你是那裡來的，耶穌卻不回答。
約19:10彼拉多說：你不對我說話麼，你豈不知我有權柄釋放你，也有權柄把你釘十字架麼。
約19:11耶穌回答說：若不是從上頭賜給你的，你就亳無權柄辦我，所以把我交給你的那人，罪更重了。
約19:12從此彼拉多想要釋放耶穌，無奈猶太人喊著說：你若釋放這個人，就不是該撒的忠臣，〔原文作朋友〕凡以自己為王的，就是背叛該撒了。
約19:13彼拉多聽見這話，就帶耶穌出來，到了一個地方，名叫鋪華石處，希伯來話叫厄巴大，就在那裡坐堂。
約19:14那日是豫備逾越節的日子，約有午正。彼拉多對猶太人說：看哪，這是你們的王。
約19:15他們喊著說：除掉他，除掉他，釘他在十字架上。彼拉多說：我可以把你們的王釘十字架麼。祭司長回答說：除了該撒，我們沒有王。
約19:16於是彼拉多將耶穌交給他們去釘十字架。
約19:17他們就把耶穌帶了去，耶穌背著自己的十字架出來，到了一個地方，名叫髑髏地，希伯來話叫各各他。
約19:18他們就在那裡釘他在十字架上，還有兩個人和他一同釘著，一邊一個，耶穌在中間。
約19:19彼拉多又用牌子寫了一個名號，安在十字架上，寫的是猶太人的王，拿撒勒人耶穌。
約19:20有許多猶太人念這名號，因為耶穌被釘十字架的地方，與城相近，並且是用希伯來，羅馬，希利尼，三樣文字寫的。
約19:21猶太人的祭司長，就對彼拉多說：不要寫猶太人的王，要寫他自己說我是猶太人的王。
約19:22彼拉多說：我所寫的，我已經寫上了。
約19:23兵丁既然將耶穌釘在十字架上，就拿他的衣服分為四分，每兵一分，又拿他的裡衣，這件裡衣，原來沒有縫兒，是上下一片織成的。
約19:24他們就彼此說：我們不要撕開，只要拈鬮，看誰得著，這要應驗經上的話說：『他們分了我的外衣，為我的裡衣拈鬮。』兵丁果然作了這事。
約19:25站在耶穌十字架旁邊的，有他母親，與他母親的姊妹，並革羅罷的妻子馬利亞，和抹大拉的馬利亞。
約19:26耶穌見母親和他所愛的那門徒站在旁邊，就對他母親說：母親，〔原文作婦人〕看你的兒子。
約19:27又對那門徒說：看你的母親。從此那門徒就接他到自己家裡去了。
約19:28這事以後，耶穌知道各樣的事已經成了，為要使經上的話應驗，就說：我渴了。
約19:29有一個器皿盛滿了醋，放在那裡，他們就拿海絨蘸滿了醋，綁在牛膝草上，送到他口。
約19:30耶穌嘗〔原文作受〕了那醋，就說：成了，便低下頭，將靈魂交付神了。
約19:31猶太人因這日是豫備日，又因那安息日是個大日，就求彼拉多叫人打斷他們的腿，把他們拿去，免得屍首當安息日留在十字架上。
約19:32於是兵丁來了，把頭一個人的腿，並與耶穌同釘第二個人的腿，都打斷了。
約19:33只是來到耶穌那裡，見他已經死了，就不打斷他的腿。
約19:34惟有一個兵拿槍扎他的肋旁，隨即有血和水流出來。
約19:35看見這事的那人就作見證，他的見證也是真的，並且他知道自己所說的是真的，叫你們也可以信。
約19:36這些事成了，為要應驗經上的話說：『他的骨頭，一根也不折斷。』
約19:37經上又有一句說：『他們要仰望自己所扎的人。』
約19:38這些事以後，有亞利馬太人約瑟，是耶穌的門徒，只因怕猶太人，就暗暗的作門徒，他來求彼拉多，要把耶穌的身體領去，彼拉多允准，他就把耶穌的身體領去了。
約19:39又有尼哥底母，就是先前夜裡去見耶穌的，帶著沒藥，和沉香，約有一百斤前來。
約19:40他們就照猶太人殯葬的規矩，把耶穌的身體用，細麻布加上香料裹好了。
約19:41在耶穌釘十字架的地方，有一個園子，園子裡有一座新墳墓，是從來沒有葬過人的。
約19:42只因是猶太人的豫備日，又因那墳墓近，他們就把耶穌安放在那裡。

約20:1七日的第一日清早，天還黑的時候，抹大拉的馬利亞來到墳墓那裡，看見石頭從墳墓挪開了。
約20:2就跑來見西門彼得，和耶穌所愛的那個門徒，對他們說：有人把主從墳墓裡挪了去，我們不知道放在那裡。
約20:3彼得和那門徒就出來，往墳墓那裡去。
約20:4兩個人同跑，那門徒比彼得跑得更快，先到了墳墓。
約20:5低頭往裡看，就見細麻布還放在那裡，只是沒有進去。
約20:6西門彼得隨後也到了，進墳墓裡去，就看見細麻布還放在那裡。
約20:7又看見耶穌的裹頭巾，沒有和細麻布放在一處，是另在一處捲著。
約20:8先到墳墓的那門徒也進去，看見就信了。
約20:9因為他們還不明白聖經的意思，就是耶穌必要從死裡復活。
約20:10於是兩個門徒回自己的住處去了。
約20:11馬利亞卻站在墳墓外面哭，哭的時候，低頭往墳墓裡看，
約20:12就見兩個天使，穿著白衣，在安放耶穌身體的地方坐著，一個在頭，一個在腳。
約20:13天使對他說：婦人，你為甚麼哭。他說：因為有人把我主挪了去，我不知道放在那裡。
約20:14說了這話，就轉過身來，看見耶穌站在那裡，卻不知道是耶穌。
約20:15耶穌問他說：婦人，為甚麼哭，你找誰呢。馬利亞以為是看園的，就對他說：先生，若是你把他移了去，請告訴我，你把他放在那裡，我便去取他。
約20:16耶穌說：馬利亞。馬利亞就轉過來，用希伯來話對他說：拉波尼，（拉波尼就是夫子的意思。）
約20:17耶穌說：不要摸我，因我還沒有升上去見我的父，你往我弟兄那裡去，告訴他們說：我要升上去，見我的父，也是你們的父，見我的神，也是你們的神。
約20:18抹大拉的馬利亞就去告訴門徒說：我已經看見了主，他又將主對他說的這話告訴他們。
約20:19那日（就是七日的第一日）晚上，門徒所在的地方，因怕猶太人，門都關了，耶穌來站在當中，對他們說：願你們平安。
約20:20說了這話，就把手和肋旁，指給他們看，門徒看見主，就喜樂了。
約20:21耶穌又對他們說：願你們平安，父怎樣差遣了我，我也照樣差遣你們。
約20:22說了這話，就向他們吹一口氣，說：你們受聖靈。
約20:23你們赦免誰的罪，誰的罪就赦免了，你們留下誰的罪，誰的罪就留下了。
約20:24那十二個門徒中，有稱為低土馬的多馬，耶穌來的時候，他沒有和他們同在。
約20:25那些門徒就對他說：我們已經看見主了。多馬卻說：我非看見他手上的釘痕，用指頭探入那釘痕，又用手探入他的肋旁，我總不信。
約20:26過了八日，門徒又在屋裡，多馬也和他們同在，門都關了，耶穌來站在當中說：願你們平安。
約20:27就對多馬說：伸過你的指頭來，摸（摸原文作看）我的手，伸出你的手來，探入我的肋旁，不要疑惑，總要信。
約20:28多馬說：我的主，我的神。
約20:29耶穌對他說：你因看見了我才信，那沒有看見就信的，有福了。
約20:30耶穌在門徒面前，另外行了許多神蹟，沒有記在這書上。
約20:31但記這些事，要叫你們信耶穌是基督，是神的兒子，並且叫你們信了他，就可以因他的名得生命。

約21:1這些事以後，耶穌在提比哩亞海邊，又向門徒顯現，他怎樣顯現記在下面。
約21:2有西門彼得和稱為低土馬的多馬，並加利利的迦拿人拿但業，還有西庇太的兩個兒子，又有兩個門徒，都在一處。
約21:3西門彼得對他們說：我打魚去，他們說：我們也和你同去。他們就出去，上了船，那一夜並沒有打著甚麼。
約21:4天將亮的時候，耶穌站在岸上，門徒卻不知道是耶穌。
約21:5耶穌就對他們說：小子，你們有吃的沒有。他們回答說：沒有。
約21:6耶穌說：你們把網撒在船的右邊，就必得著。他們便撒下網去，竟拉不上來了，因為魚甚多。
約21:7耶穌所愛的那門徒對彼得說：是主。那時西門彼得赤著身子，一聽見是主，就束上一件外衣，跳在海裡。
約21:8其餘的門徒，（離岸不遠，約有二百肘〔古時以肘為尺一肘約有今時尺半〕）就在小船上把那網魚拉過來。
約21:9他們上了岸，就看見那裡有炭火，上面有魚，又有餅。
約21:10耶穌對他們說：把剛才打的魚拿幾條來。
約21:11西門彼得就去，〔或作上船〕把網拉到岸上，那網滿了大魚，共一百五十三條，魚雖這樣多，網卻沒有破。
約21:12耶穌說：你們來吃早飯，門徒中沒有一個敢問他，你是誰，因為知道是主。
約21:13耶穌就來拿餅和魚給他們。
約21:14耶穌從死裡復活以後，向門徒顯現，這是第三次。
約21:15他們吃完了早飯，耶穌對西門彼得說：約翰的兒子西門，〔約翰馬太十六章十七節稱約拿〕你愛我比這些更深麼。彼得說：主阿，是的，你知道我愛你。耶穌對他說：你餧養我的小羊。
約21:16耶穌第二次又對他說：約翰的兒子西門，你愛我麼。彼得說：主阿，是的，你知道我愛你，耶穌說：你牧養我的羊。
約21:17第三次對他說：約翰的兒子西門，你愛我麼。彼得因為耶穌第三次對他說：你愛我麼，就憂愁，對耶穌說：主阿，你是無所不知的，你知道我愛你。耶穌說：你餧養我的羊。
約21:18我實實在在的告訴你，你年少的時候，自己束上帶子，隨意往來，但年老的時候，你要伸出手來，別人要把你束上，帶你到不願意去的地方。
約21:19耶穌說這話，是指著彼得要怎樣死榮耀神。說了這話，就對他說：你跟從我罷。
約21:20彼得轉過來，看見耶穌所愛的那門徒跟著，就是在晚飯的時候，靠著耶穌胸膛，說：主阿，賣你的是誰的那門徒。
約21:21彼得看見他，就問耶穌說：主阿，這人將來如何。
約21:22耶穌對他說：我若要他等到我來的時候，與你何干，你跟從我罷。
約21:23於是這話傳在弟兄中間，說那門徒不死，其實耶穌不是說他不死，乃是說我若要他等到我來的時候，與你何干。
約21:24為這些事作見證，並且記載這些事的，就是這門徒，我們也知道他的見證是真的。

約21:25耶穌所行的事，還有許多，若是一一的都寫出來，我想所寫的書，就是世界也容不下了。

18 When he had finished praying, Jesus left with his disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was a garden, and he and his disciples went into it.

2 Now Judas, who betrayed him, knew the place, because Jesus had often met there with his disciples. 3 So Judas came to the garden, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and the Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons.

4 Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them, “Who is it you want?”

5 “Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied.

“I am he,” Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.) 6 When Jesus said, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground.

7 Again he asked them, “Who is it you want?”

“Jesus of Nazareth,” they said.

8 Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. If you are looking for me, then let these men go.” 9 This happened so that the words he had spoken would be fulfilled: “I have not lost one of those you gave me.”[a]

10 Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.)

11 Jesus commanded Peter, “Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?”

12 Then the detachment of soldiers with its commander and the Jewish officials arrested Jesus. They bound him 13 and brought him first to Annas, who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest that year. 14 Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jewish leaders that it would be good if one man died for the people.

Peter’s First Denial
15 Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. Because this disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the high priest’s courtyard, 16 but Peter had to wait outside at the door. The other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came back, spoke to the servant girl on duty there and brought Peter in.

17 “You aren’t one of this man’s disciples too, are you?” she asked Peter.

He replied, “I am not.”

18 It was cold, and the servants and officials stood around a fire they had made to keep warm. Peter also was standing with them, warming himself.

The High Priest Questions Jesus
19 Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching.

20 “I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus replied. “I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret. 21 Why question me? Ask those who heard me. Surely they know what I said.”

22 When Jesus said this, one of the officials nearby slapped him in the face. “Is this the way you answer the high priest?” he demanded.

23 “If I said something wrong,” Jesus replied, “testify as to what is wrong. But if I spoke the truth, why did you strike me?” 24 Then Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.

Peter’s Second and Third Denials
25 Meanwhile, Simon Peter was still standing there warming himself. So they asked him, “You aren’t one of his disciples too, are you?”

He denied it, saying, “I am not.”

26 One of the high priest’s servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, challenged him, “Didn’t I see you with him in the garden?” 27 Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow.

Jesus Before Pilate
28 Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness they did not enter the palace, because they wanted to be able to eat the Passover. 29 So Pilate came out to them and asked, “What charges are you bringing against this man?”

30 “If he were not a criminal,” they replied, “we would not have handed him over to you.”

31 Pilate said, “Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.”

“But we have no right to execute anyone,” they objected. 32 This took place to fulfill what Jesus had said about the kind of death he was going to die.

33 Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”

34 “Is that your own idea,” Jesus asked, “or did others talk to you about me?”

35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?”

36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”

37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate.

Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”

38 “What is truth?” retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him. 39 But it is your custom for me to release to you one prisoner at the time of the Passover. Do you want me to release ‘the king of the Jews’?”

40 They shouted back, “No, not him! Give us Barabbas!” Now Barabbas had taken part in an uprising.

 

 

19 Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. 2 The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe 3 and went up to him again and again, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!” And they slapped him in the face.

4 Once more Pilate came out and said to the Jews gathered there, “Look, I am bringing him out to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge against him.” 5 When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe, Pilate said to them, “Here is the man!”

6 As soon as the chief priests and their officials saw him, they shouted, “Crucify! Crucify!”

But Pilate answered, “You take him and crucify him. As for me, I find no basis for a charge against him.”

7 The Jewish leaders insisted, “We have a law, and according to that law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God.”

8 When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid, 9 and he went back inside the palace. “Where do you come from?” he asked Jesus, but Jesus gave him no answer. 10 “Do you refuse to speak to me?” Pilate said. “Don’t you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?”

11 Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.”

12 From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free, but the Jewish leaders kept shouting, “If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king opposes Caesar.”

13 When Pilate heard this, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judge’s seat at a place known as the Stone Pavement (which in Aramaic is Gabbatha). 14 It was the day of Preparation of the Passover; it was about noon.

“Here is your king,” Pilate said to the Jews.

15 But they shouted, “Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!”

“Shall I crucify your king?” Pilate asked.

“We have no king but Caesar,” the chief priests answered.

16 Finally Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified.

The Crucifixion of Jesus
So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. 17 Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). 18 There they crucified him, and with him two others—one on each side and Jesus in the middle.

19 Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: jesus of nazareth, the king of the jews. 20 Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek. 21 The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.”

22 Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”

23 When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.

24 “Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.”

This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled that said,

“They divided my clothes among them
    and cast lots for my garment.”[a]
So this is what the soldiers did.

25 Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman,[b] here is your son,” 27 and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.

The Death of Jesus
28 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

31 Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jewish leaders did not want the bodies left on the crosses during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down. 32 The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other. 33 But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. 34 Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. 35 The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe. 36 These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken,”[c] 37 and, as another scripture says, “They will look on the one they have pierced.”[d]

The Burial of Jesus

38 Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. 39 He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.[e] 40 Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs. 41 At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. 42 Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.

 

 

20 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2 So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”

3 So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. 4 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, 7 as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. 8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. 9 (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.) 10 Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.

Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene
11 Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 12 and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.

13 They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”

“They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” 14 At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.

15 He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”

Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”

16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.”

She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).

17 Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”

18 Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her.

Jesus Appears to His Disciples
19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

Jesus Appears to Thomas
24 Now Thomas (also known as Didymus[a]), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”

But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

The Purpose of John’s Gospel

30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe[b] that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Jesus and the Miraculous Catch of Fish

21 Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Galilee.[a] It happened this way: 2 Simon Peter, Thomas (also known as Didymus[b]), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. 3 “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.

4 Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus.

5 He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?”

“No,” they answered.

6 He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.”When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

7 Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. 8 The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards.[c] 9 When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread.

10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. 14 This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.

Jesus Reinstates Peter

15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”

“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”

16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”

17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!”

20 Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”) 21 When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?”

22 Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.” 23 Because of this, the rumor spread among the believers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”

24 This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true.

約16:1我已將這些事告訴你們，使你們不至跌倒。
約16:2人要把你們趕出會堂，並且時候將到，凡殺你們的，就以為是事奉神。

約16:20我實實在在的告訴你們，你們將要痛哭，哀號，世人倒要喜樂，你們將要憂愁，然而你們的憂愁，要變為喜樂。
約16:21婦人生產的時候，就憂愁，因為他的時候到了，既生了孩子，就不再記念那苦楚，因為歡喜世上生了一個人。
約16:22你們現在也是憂愁，但我要再見你們，你們的心就喜樂了，這喜樂，也沒有人能奪去。

約17:12我與他們同在的時候，因你所賜給我的名，保守了他們，我也護衛了他們，其中除了那滅亡之子，沒有一個滅亡的，好叫經上的話得應驗。
約17:13現在我往你那裡去，我還在世上說這話，是叫他們心裡充滿我的喜樂。
約17:14我已將你的道賜給他們，世界又恨他們，因為他們不屬世界，正如我不屬世界一樣。
約17:15我不求你叫他們離開世界，只求你保守他們脫離那惡者。〔或作脫離罪惡〕
約17:16他們不屬世界，正如我不屬世界一樣。
約17:17求你用真理使他們成聖，你的道就是真理。
約17:18你怎樣差我到世上，我也照樣差他們到世上。
約17:19我為他們的緣故，自己分別為聖，叫他們也因真理成聖。
約17:20我不但為這些人祈求，也為那些因他們的話信我的人祈求。
約17:21使他們都合而為一，正如你父在我裡面，我在你裡面，使他們也在我們裡面，叫世人可以信你差了我來。
約17:22你所賜給我的榮耀，我已賜給他們，使他們合而為一，像我們合而為一。
約17:23我在他們裡面，你在我裡面，使他們完完全全的合而為一，叫世人知道你差了我來，也知道你愛他們如同愛我一樣。
約17:24父阿，我在那裡，願你所賜給我的人，也同我在那裡，叫他們看見你所賜給我的榮耀，因為創立世界以前，你已經愛我了。
約17:25公義的父阿，世人未曾認識你，我卻認識你，這些人也知道你差了我來。

John 16

 

16 “All this I have told you so that you will not fall away. 2 They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. 3 They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me. 4 I have told you this, so that when their time comes you will remember that I warned you about them. I did not tell you this from the beginning because I was with you, 5 but now I am going to him who sent me. None of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6 Rather, you are filled with grief because I have said these things. 7 But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 about sin, because people do not believe in me; 10 about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11 and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.

12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”

The Disciples’ Grief Will Turn to Joy
16 Jesus went on to say, “In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me.”

17 At this, some of his disciples said to one another, “What does he mean by saying, ‘In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me,’ and ‘Because I am going to the Father’?” 18 They kept asking, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? We don’t understand what he is saying.”

19 Jesus saw that they wanted to ask him about this, so he said to them, “Are you asking one another what I meant when I said, ‘In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me’? 20 Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. 21 A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. 22 So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. 23 In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. 24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.

25 “Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father. 26 In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. 27 No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. 28 I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”

29 Then Jesus’ disciples said, “Now you are speaking clearly and without figures of speech. 30 Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone ask you questions. This makes us believe that you came from God.”

31 “Do you now believe?” Jesus replied. 32 “A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me.

33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

 

 

 

17 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed:

“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

Jesus Prays for His Disciples
6 “I have revealed you[a] to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. 7 Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. 8 For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. 9 I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. 10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. 11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of[b] your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one. 12 While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by[c] that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.

13 “I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. 14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. 15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by[d] the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.

Jesus Prays for All Believers
20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.

25 “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26 I have made you[e] known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”

 

 

 

約14:1你們心裡不要憂愁，你們信神，也當信我。
約14:2在我父的家裡，有許多住處，若是沒有，我就早已告訴你們了，我去原是為你們豫備地方去。
約14:3我若去為你們豫備了地方，就必再來接你們到我那裡去，我在那裡，叫你們也在那裡。
約14:4我往那裡去，你們知道，那條路，你們也知道。〔有古卷作我往那裡去你們知道那條路〕
約14:5多馬對他說：主阿，我們不知道你往那裡去，怎麼知道那條路呢。
約14:6耶穌說：我就是道路，真理，生命，若不藉著我，沒有人能到父那裡去。
約14:7你們若認識我，也就認識我的父，從今以後，你們認識他，並且已經看見他。
約14:8腓力對他說：求主將父顯給我們看，我們就知足了。
約14:9耶穌對他說：腓力，我與你們同在這麼長久，你還不認識我麼。人看見了我，就是看見了父，你怎麼說：將父顯給我們看呢。
約14:10我在父裡面，父在我裡面，你不信麼。我對你們所說的話，不是憑著自己說的，乃是住在我裡面的父作他自己的事。
約14:11你們當信我，我在父裡面，父在我裡面，即或不信，也當因我所作的事信我。
約14:12我實實在在的告訴你們，我所作的事，信我的人也要作，並且要作比這更大的事，因為我往父那裡去。
約14:13你們奉我的名，無論求甚麼，我必成就，叫父因兒子得榮耀。
約14:14你們若奉我名求甚麼，我必成就。
約14:15你們若愛我，就必遵守我的命令。
約14:16我要求父，父就另外賜給你們一位保惠師，〔或作訓慰師下同〕叫他永遠與你們同在，
約14:17就是真理的聖靈，乃世人不能接受的，因為不見他，也不認識他，你們卻認識他，因他常與你們同在，也要在你們裡面。
約14:18我不撇下你們為孤兒，我必到你們這裡來。
約14:19還有不多的時候，世人不再看見我，你們卻看見我，因為我活著，你們也要活著。
約14:20到那日你們就知道我在父裡面，你們在我裡面，我也在你們裡面。
約14:21有了我的命令又遵守的，這人就是愛我的，愛我的必蒙我父愛他，我也要愛他，並且要向他顯現。
約14:22猶大（不是加略人猶大）問耶穌說：主阿，為甚麼要向我們顯現，不向世人顯現呢。
約14:23耶穌回答說：人若愛我，就必遵守我的道，我父也必愛他，並且我們要到他那裡去，與他同住。
約14:24不愛我的人就不遵守我的道，你們所聽見的道不是我的，乃是差我來之父的道。
約14:25我還與你們同住的時候，已將這些話對你們說了。
約14:26但保惠師，就是父因我的名所要差來的聖靈，他要將一切的事，指教你們，並且要叫你們想起我對你們所說的一切話。
約14:27我留下平安給你們，我將我的平安賜給你們，我所賜的，不像世人所賜的，你們心裡不要憂愁，也不要膽怯。
約14:28你們聽見我對你們說了，我去還要到你們這裡來。你們若愛我，因我到父那裡去，就必喜樂，因為父是比我大的。
約14:29現在事情還沒有成就，我豫先告訴你們，叫你們到事情成就的時候，就可以信。
約14:30以後我不再和你們多說話，因為這世界的王將到，他在我裡面是毫無所有。
約14:31但要叫世人知道我愛父，並且父怎樣吩咐我，我就怎樣行。起來，我們走罷。

約15:1我是真葡萄樹，我父是栽培的人。
約15:2凡屬我不結果子的枝子，他就剪去，凡結果子的，他就修理乾淨，使枝子結果子更多。
約15:3現在你們因我講給你們的道，已經乾淨了。
約15:4你們要常在我裡面，我也常在你們裡面。枝子若不常在葡萄樹上，自己就不能結果子，你們若不常在我裡面，也是這樣。
約15:5我是葡萄樹，你們是枝子，常在我裡面的，我也常在他裡面，這人就多結果子，因為離了我，你們就不能作甚麼。
約15:6人若不常在我裡面，就像枝子丟在外面枯乾，人拾起來，扔在火裡燒了。
約15:7你們若常在我裡面，我的話也常在你們裡面，凡你們所願意的，祈求就給你們成就。
約15:8你們多結果子，我父就因此得榮耀，你們也就是我的門徒了。
約15:9我愛你們，正如父愛我一樣，你們要常在我的愛裡。
約15:10你們若遵守我的命令，就常在我的愛裡，正如我遵守了我父的命令，常在他的愛裡。
約15:11這些事我已經對你們說了，是要叫我的喜樂，存在你們心裡，並叫你們的喜樂可以滿足。
約15:12你們要彼此相愛，像我愛你們一樣，這就是我的命令。
約15:13人為朋友捨命，人的愛心沒有比這個大的。
約15:14你們若遵行我所吩咐的，就是我的朋友了。
約15:15以後我不再稱你們為僕人，因僕人不知道主人所作的事，我乃稱你們為朋友，因我從我父所聽見的，已經都告訴你們了。
約15:16不是你們揀選了我，是我揀選了你們，並且分派你們去結果子，叫你們的果子常存，使你們奉我的名，無論向父求甚麼，他就賜給你們。
約15:17我這樣吩咐你們，是要叫你們彼此相愛。
約15:18世人若恨你們，你們知道〔或作該知道〕恨你們以先，已經恨我了。
約15:19你們若屬世界，世界必愛屬自己的，只因你們不屬世界，乃是我從世界中揀選了你們，所以世界就恨你們。
約15:20你們要記念我從前對你們所說的話，僕人不能大於主人。他們若逼迫了我，也要逼迫你們，若遵守了我的話，也要遵守你們的話。
約15:21但他們因我的名，要向你們行這一切的事，因為他們不認識那差我來的。
約15:22我若沒有來教訓他們，他們就沒有罪，但如今他們的罪無可推諉了。
約15:23恨我的，也恨我的父。
約15:24我若沒有在他們中間行過別人未曾行的事，他們就沒有罪，但如今連我與我的父，他們也看見也恨惡了。
約15:25這要應驗他們律法上所寫的話，說：『他們無故恨我。』
約15:26但我要從父那裡差保惠師來，就是從父出來真理的聖靈，他來了，就要為我作見證。
約15:27你們也要作見證，因為你們從起頭就與我同在。

 

 

 

 

14 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”

Jesus the Way to the Father
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know[b] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”

9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit
15 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[c] in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”

23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

28 “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. 29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe. 30 I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, 31 but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me.

“Come now; let us leave.

 

 

15 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

9 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. 17 This is my command: Love each other.

The World Hates the Disciples
18 “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20 Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’[b] If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. 24 If I had not done among them the works no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. 25 But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated me without reason.’[c]

The Work of the Holy Spirit

26 “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me. 27 And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.
