本日經文提要( 列王紀上 9:1~10:29)
王上9:1所羅門建造耶和華殿，和王宮，並一切所願意建造的，都完畢了，
王上9:2耶和華就二次向所羅門顯現，如先前在基遍向他顯現一樣。
王上9:3對他說：你向我所禱告祈求的，我都應允了，我已將你所建的這殿分別為聖，使我的名永遠在其中，我的眼，我的心，也必常在那裡。
王上9:4你若效法你父大衛，存誠實正直的心行在我面前，遵行我一切所吩咐你的，謹守我的律例典章，
王上9:5我就必堅固你的國位在以色列中，直到永遠，正如我應許你父大衛說：你的子孫必不斷人坐以色列的國位。
王上9:6倘若你們和你們的子孫轉去不跟從我，不守我指示你們的誡命律例，去事奉敬拜別神，
王上9:7我就必將以色列人從我賜給他們的地上剪除，並且我為己名所分別為聖的殿，也必捨棄不顧，使以色列人在萬民中作笑談，被譏誚。
王上9:8這殿雖然甚高，將來經過的人必驚訝，嗤笑，說：耶和華為何向這地和這殿如此行呢。
王上9:9人必回答說：是因此地的人離棄領他們列祖出埃及地之耶和華他們的神，去親近別神，事奉敬拜他，所以耶和華使這一切災禍臨到他們。
王上9:10所羅門建造耶和華殿和王宮，這兩所，二十年才完畢了。
王上9:11（推羅王希蘭曾照所羅門所要的，資助他香柏木，松木，和金子）所羅門王就把加利利地的二十座城，給了希蘭。
王上9:12希蘭從推羅出來，察看所羅門給他的城邑，就不喜悅，
王上9:13說：我兄阿，你給我的是甚麼城邑呢，他就給這城邑之地起名叫迦步勒，直到今日。
王上9:14希蘭給所羅門一百二十他連得金子。
王上9:15所羅門王挑取服苦的人，是為建造耶和華的殿，自己的宮，米羅，耶路撒冷的城牆，夏瑣，米吉多，並基色。
王上9:16先前埃及王法老上來攻取基色，用火焚燒，殺了城內居住的迦南人，將城賜給他女兒所羅門的妻作妝奩。
王上9:17所羅門建造基色，下伯和崙，
王上9:18巴拉，並國中曠野裡的達莫。
王上9:19又建造所有的積貨城，並屯車和馬兵的城，與耶路撒冷，利巴嫩，以及自己治理的全國中所願建造的。
王上9:20至於國中所剩下不屬以色列人的亞摩利人，赫人，比利洗人，希未人，耶布斯人，
王上9:21就是以色列人不能滅盡的，所羅門挑取他們的後裔，作服苦的奴僕，直到今日。
王上9:22惟有以色列人，所羅門不使他們作奴僕，乃是作他的戰士，臣僕，統領，軍長，車兵長，馬兵長。
王上9:23所羅門有五百五十督工的，監管工人。
王上9:24法老的女兒，從大衛城搬到所羅門為他建造的宮裡，那時所羅門才建造米羅。
王上9:25所羅門每年三次在他為耶和華所築的壇上獻燔祭，和平安祭，又在耶和華面前的壇上燒香。這樣，他建造殿的工程完畢了。
王上9:26所羅門王在以東地，紅海邊，靠近以祿的以旬迦別製造船隻。
王上9:27希蘭差遣他的僕人，就是熟悉泛海的船家，與所羅門的僕人，一同坐船航海。
王上9:28他們到了俄斐，從那裡得了四百二十他連得金子，運到所羅門王那裡。
王上10:1示巴女王聽見所羅門因耶和華之名所得的名聲，就來要用難解的話，試問所羅門。
王上10:2跟隨他到耶路撒冷的人甚多，又有駱駝馱著香料，寶石，和許多金子，他來見了所羅門王，就把心裡所有的，對所羅門都說出來。
王上10:3所羅門王將他所問的都答上了，沒有一句不明白，不能答的。
王上10:4示巴女王見所羅門大有智慧，和他所建造的宮室，
王上10:5席上的珍饈美味，群臣分列而坐，僕人兩旁侍立，以及他們的衣服裝飾，和酒政的衣服裝飾，又見他上耶和華殿的臺階，〔或作他在耶和華殿裡所獻的燔祭〕就詫異得神不守舍。
王上10:6對王說：我在本國裡所聽見論到你的事，和你的智慧，實在是真的。
王上10:7我先不信那些話，及至我來親眼見了，才知道人所告訴我的，還不到一半，你的智慧和你的福分，越過我所聽見的風聲。
王上10:8你的臣子，你的僕人，常侍立在你面前，聽你智慧的話，是有福的。
王上10:9耶和華你的神是應當稱頌的，他喜悅你，使你坐以色列的國位，因為他永遠愛以色列，所以立你作王，使你秉公行義。
王上10:10於是示巴女王將一百二十他連得金子，和寶石與極多的香料，送給所羅門王，他送給王的香料，以後奉來的不再有這樣多。
王上10:11希蘭的船隻從俄斐運了金子來，又從俄斐運了許多檀香木〔或作烏木下同〕和寶石來。
王上10:12王用檀香木為耶和華殿，和王宮，作欄杆，又為歌唱的人作琴瑟，以後再沒有這樣的檀香木進國來，也沒有人看見過，直到如今。
王上10:13示巴女王一切所要所求的，所羅門王都送給他，另外照自己的厚意餽送他。於是女王和他臣僕轉回本國去了。
王上10:14所羅門每年所得的金子，共有六百六十六他連得。
王上10:15另外還有商人，和雜族的諸王，與國中的省長，所進的金子。〔雜族在歷代下九章十四節作亞拉伯〕
王上10:16所羅門王用錘出來的金子，打成擋牌二百面，每面用金子六百舍客勒。
王上10:17又用錘出來的金子，打成盾牌三百面，每面用金子三彌那，都放在利巴嫩林宮裡。
王上10:18王用象牙製造一個寶座，用精金包裹。
王上10:19寶座有六層臺階，座的後背是圓的，兩旁有扶手，靠近扶手有兩個獅子站立。
王上10:20六層臺階上有十二個獅子站立，每層有兩個，左邊一個，右邊一個，在列國中沒有這樣作的。
王上10:21所羅門王一切的飲器，都是金子的，利巴嫩林宮裡的一切器皿，都是精金的，所羅門年間，銀子算不了甚麼。
王上10:22因為王有他施船隻與希蘭的船隻一同航海，三年一次，裝載金銀，象牙，猿猴，孔雀回來。
王上10:23所羅門王的財寶與智慧，勝過天下的列王。
王上10:24普天下的王都求見所羅門，要聽神賜給他智慧的話。
王上10:25他們各帶貢物，就是金器，銀器，衣服，軍械，香料，騾馬，每年有一定之例。
王上10:26所羅門聚集戰車馬兵，有戰車一千四百輛，馬兵一萬二千名，安置在屯車的城邑，和耶路撒冷就是王那裡。
王上10:27王在耶路撒冷使銀子多如石頭。香柏木多如高原的桑樹。
王上10:28所羅門的馬是從埃及帶來的，是王的商人，一群一群，按著定價，買來的。
王上10:29從埃及買來的車，每輛價銀六百舍客勒，馬每匹一百五十舍客勒，赫人諸王，和亞蘭諸王，所買的車馬，也是按這價值經他們手買來的。
The Lord Appears to Solomon
9 When Solomon had finished building the temple of the Lord and the royal palace, and had achieved all he had desired to do, 2 the Lord appeared to him a second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon. 3 The Lord said to him:
“I have heard the prayer and plea you have made before me; I have consecrated this temple, which you have built, by putting my Name there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.
4 “As for you, if you walk before me faithfully with integrity of heart and uprightness, as David your father did, and do all I command and observe my decrees and laws, 5 I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever, as I promised David your father when I said, ‘You shall never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’
6 “But if you[a] or your descendants turn away from me and do not observe the commands and decrees I have given you[b] and go off to serve other gods and worship them, 7 then I will cut off Israel from the land I have given them and will reject this temple I have consecrated for my Name. Israel will then become a byword and an object of ridicule among all peoples. 8 This temple will become a heap of rubble. All[c] who pass by will be appalled and will scoff and say, ‘Why has the Lord done such a thing to this land and to this temple?’ 9 People will answer, ‘Because they have forsaken the Lord their God, who brought their ancestors out of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them—that is why the Lord brought all this disaster on them.’”
Solomon’s Other Activities
10 At the end of twenty years, during which Solomon built these two buildings—the temple of the Lord and the royal palace— 11 King Solomon gave twenty towns in Galilee to Hiram king of Tyre, because Hiram had supplied him with all the cedar and juniper and gold he wanted. 12 But when Hiram went from Tyre to see the towns that Solomon had given him, he was not pleased with them. 13 “What kind of towns are these you have given me, my brother?” he asked. And he called them the Land of Kabul,[d] a name they have to this day. 14 Now Hiram had sent to the king 120 talents[e] of gold.
15 Here is the account of the forced labor King Solomon conscripted to build the Lord’s temple, his own palace, the terraces,[f] the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, Megiddo and Gezer. 16 (Pharaoh king of Egypt had attacked and captured Gezer. He had set it on fire. He killed its Canaanite inhabitants and then gave it as a wedding gift to his daughter, Solomon’s wife. 17 And Solomon rebuilt Gezer.) He built up Lower Beth Horon, 18 Baalath, and Tadmor[g] in the desert, within his land, 19 as well as all his store cities and the towns for his chariots and for his horses[h]—whatever he desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon and throughout all the territory he ruled.
20 There were still people left from the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites (these peoples were not Israelites). 21 Solomon conscripted the descendants of all these peoples remaining in the land—whom the Israelites could not exterminate[i]—to serve as slave labor, as it is to this day. 22 But Solomon did not make slaves of any of the Israelites; they were his fighting men, his government officials, his officers, his captains, and the commanders of his chariots and charioteers. 23 They were also the chief officials in charge of Solomon’s projects—550 officials supervising those who did the work.
24 After Pharaoh’s daughter had come up from the City of David to the palace Solomon had built for her, he constructed the terraces.
25 Three times a year Solomon sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings on the altar he had built for the Lord, burning incense before the Lord along with them, and so fulfilled the temple obligations.
26 King Solomon also built ships at Ezion Geber, which is near Elath in Edom, on the shore of the Red Sea.[j] 27 And Hiram sent his men—sailors who knew the sea—to serve in the fleet with Solomon’s men. 28 They sailed to Ophir and brought back 420 talents[k] of gold, which they delivered to King Solomon.
10 When the queen of Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon and his relationship to the Lord, she came to test Solomon with hard questions. 2 Arriving at Jerusalem with a very great caravan—with camels carrying spices, large quantities of gold, and precious stones—she came to Solomon and talked with him about all that she had on her mind. 3 Solomon answered all her questions; nothing was too hard for the king to explain to her. 4 When the queen of Sheba saw all the wisdom of Solomon and the palace he had built, 5 the food on his table, the seating of his officials, the attending servants in their robes, his cupbearers, and the burnt offerings he made at[a] the temple of the Lord, she was overwhelmed.
6 She said to the king, “The report I heard in my own country about your achievements and your wisdom is true. 7 But I did not believe these things until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half was told me; in wisdom and wealth you have far exceeded the report I heard. 8 How happy your people must be! How happy your officials, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom! 9 Praise be to the Lord your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel, he has made you king to maintain justice and righteousness.”
10 And she gave the king 120 talents[b] of gold, large quantities of spices, and precious stones. Never again were so many spices brought in as those the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.
11 (Hiram’s ships brought gold from Ophir; and from there they brought great cargoes of almugwood[c] and precious stones. 12 The king used the almugwood to make supports[d] for the temple of the Lord and for the royal palace, and to make harps and lyres for the musicians. So much almugwood has never been imported or seen since that day.)
13 King Solomon gave the queen of Sheba all she desired and asked for, besides what he had given her out of his royal bounty. Then she left and returned with her retinue to her own country.
Solomon’s Splendor
14 The weight of the gold that Solomon received yearly was 666 talents,[e] 15 not including the revenues from merchants and traders and from all the Arabian kings and the governors of the territories.
16 King Solomon made two hundred large shields of hammered gold; six hundred shekels[f] of gold went into each shield. 17 He also made three hundred small shields of hammered gold, with three minas[g] of gold in each shield. The king put them in the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon.
18 Then the king made a great throne covered with ivory and overlaid with fine gold. 19 The throne had six steps, and its back had a rounded top. On both sides of the seat were armrests, with a lion standing beside each of them. 20 Twelve lions stood on the six steps, one at either end of each step. Nothing like it had ever been made for any other kingdom. 21 All King Solomon’s goblets were gold, and all the household articles in the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon were pure gold. Nothing was made of silver, because silver was considered of little value in Solomon’s days. 22 The king had a fleet of trading ships[h] at sea along with the ships of Hiram. Once every three years it returned, carrying gold, silver and ivory, and apes and baboons.
23 King Solomon was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth. 24 The whole world sought audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart. 25 Year after year, everyone who came brought a gift—articles of silver and gold, robes, weapons and spices, and horses and mules.
26 Solomon accumulated chariots and horses; he had fourteen hundred chariots and twelve thousand horses,[i] which he kept in the chariot cities and also with him in Jerusalem. 27 The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones, and cedar as plentiful as sycamore-fig trees in the foothills. 28 Solomon’s horses were imported from Egypt and from Kue[j]—the royal merchants purchased them from Kue at the current price. 29 They imported a chariot from Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty.[k] They also exported them to all the kings of the Hittites and of the Arameans.
